newtredeuce
So when going through a lot of the threads I have noticed that a lot of people are unsure of Williams because he had not really done that much though his career so far and the fact of what we signed him for. I think we are forgetting about what happened last year with Hughes one for one trade. Yes it is up to the coaches to put them in the right place to succeed and then up to the player to perform but if we can follow that same suit as we did last year I believe this could be a very good signing as we need the help there. The Rams and us are completely different teams so in reality he could be a very good fit here but time will tell.
bcw
Williams will never be a star but placed between Wood and Glenn he should be able to handle the LG spot.

Exactly, not everyone on the OL is going to be a pro bowl player, it's important to have role players. Chris Williams is a huge upgrade in talent over last years starters Colin Brown and Doug Legursky. bcw
Legursky and Brown have never done anything in the NFL, and never will apart from back up duty. There is no excuse for throwing them out there. I wonder if the team was hoping Harrington would be the starter but his injury ruined that plan. Williams may not have lived up to his 1st round expectations but he certainly isn't in the same category as Brown and Legursky. We will just have to wait and see if he is anything more than a body to plug in until a draft pick develops but at least he has done the job before and this staff, and the Rams staff, saw enough in him to give him a contract. He was there when they drafted Williams and Graham. He's pretty high on Williams and says some issues with Mike Tice caused him to struggle in Chicago. He may not have the most subjective view since he scouted these guys and may have a personal relationship with them, but he thinks they both are very solid players. bcw
Nice interview. He really speaks highly of Williams. Makes me feel a little better about the signing. What was really interesting is that Gabriel says he would be surprised if any of the qb's were taken top 10.

Legursky started in a Super Bowl. That's not to say he was good but it's a hell of a lot more than Williams has accomplished. bcw
Legursky started in a Super Bowl. That's not to say he was good but it's a hell of a lot more than Williams has accomplished. He didn't start in the super bowl by choice. He can thank an injury for that one. At least Williams has won starting jobs. Sure, he might end up blowing but I'm keeping my fingers crossed. If the o-line works as a unit his flaws can be covered up. From the sound of it, he has struggled in pass protection, but he should help our run game.
