This would be a very very nice addition.

I'm seriosuly worried that Whaley thinks Powell can be our MLB. That's retarded. Get Spikes and move Kiko back in

Spikes IS a bona-fide first-rate run stopper but he's a serious liability in pass coverage. Well worth getting but you will have to "put him in a position to succeed".

A run stopping LB is what we need. They know he sucks in coverage, and they will put him in a position to succeed. I dont like the move, I love it

would "Love" to see this happen

I think every Bills fan is on board to bring in Spikes. Me and my big brother have been clamoring for this dude since the season ended, he is exactly what we need and allows our outside LB's to drop back and cover. I still think our LB depth is a little thin even with Spikes but it is MUCH better from the second his name signs on the dotted line.

Plus, imagine the chip on this dudes shoulder when he plays NE and he already has a mean streak (which we lack). If Whaley makes this signing it to me really says he has a pulse on this team and their needs. I know it isn't a popular frame of though but I am completely against being baited into overpaying for borderline starters (see Browns and Raiders this FA). I'll miss Byrd but our secondary was solid without him last year and it will be this year, this is addressing a real need.

Make it happen Whaley!

"Spikes would be a tremendous fit for this defense. Would go a long way for the run defense if they could rope him in."

could be the Bills future ILB.

I agree with Joe Buscaglia, Spikes is a very good run defender and the Bills biggest problem last year was stopping the run. Look at the 2nd game versus the Patriots for an example of bad run defence. With Kiko Alonso being moved to WLB and K.Rivers playing SLB the Bills need a 2 down run stuffer and that's what Spikes is. He excels at being a run stopping specialist, and has a nasty attitude. Combine that with his good relationship with former position coach and current Bills DL coach Pepper Johnson and this move makes sense.

This would be a very very nice addition.

The way I interpreted Whaley's comments on Powell is that he is a good special teams player and good in coverage, so he is a asset in coverage packages. I don't think they are content with Powell as the starting MLB on obvious running downs. The fact they are bringing in B.Spikes is a sign of that. Hopefully they sign Spikes.

I would hope you are right. However what I read from twitter (Joe B and Mike Rodak) is that Whaley said that Powell was their guy for MLB. That's not very good IMO. They need Spikes and if for whatever reason he can't be signed they need to draft someone high or let Kiko stay there. I want no part of Powell at MLB

This and a few other comments by Whaley of being "comfortable" about various positions roster management such as Powell playing MLB, Duke Williams and others not name Aaron Williams at Safety (after you had just given the Late J. Byrd a half-assed contract offer, substantial our asses) and "comfortable" with the 4 stiffs they have on the roster @ QB really set me (and a few other thousands of people) off this morning. Given this exceptional organization's record of continual long-term success, being "comfortable" with 3rd & 4th rate players in key positions after you've just lost another in a long line of top players developed by this organization with half-assed extension offers, isn't a particularly comforting, or bright, statement to your fan-base regarding your commitment to winning. Sometimes it almost seems that they are purposely TRYING to alienate their fans, aka paying customers.

The fact that they have brought Spikes in seems to actually indicate they realize that the team DOES have holes, and some good sized ones. Whether Spikes actually signs here is another matter. Hopefully this is not another Clabo moment, the Bills credibility with their fan-base and the entire NFL community is about zero. They need to show some real commitment to winning, and some serious roster management acumen. Believe it or not, most of the world looks at the Bills track record at that sort of thing as a big stinkin' "F". As in Fail...

So hopefully, this is a good sign and goes well. BTW, Dougie, please don't look us straight in the eye and expect us to accept that Thad Lewis, Dennis Dixon and (especially) Jeff Tuel are viable options as QBs should EJ get one of his 3 obligatory injuries in 2014. You just look foolish...

Spikes would be a huge add for the Bills. The guy brings some attitude and kind of got almost punished for trying to play through injuries last year. Sure he is not the greatest in coverage but is better than what they give him credit for. I assume Pepper helped bring him there, I think he will be a good fit for you guys.

Bills agreed to terms with ILB Brandon Spikes, formerly of the Patriots, on a one-year, $3.25 million deal.

The Bills foreshadowed this signing when they announced second-year LB Kiko Alonso would move to weak-side linebacker, clearing the way for Spikes to man the middle. Spikes, one of the best run-stuffing linebacker in the league, will provide a solid anchor in the middle of the Bills' new 4-3 scheme.

They need to address and improve the QB situation. Looking at the 4 players on the roster is not exactly encouraging. Even if EJ pans out, which is still to be determined (he deserves a chance to demonstrate he is "the Man"), the other three players are VERY limited. The mis-management of the QB position from training camp forward sabotaged the 2013 season, and is a ticking time-bomb for 2014. The NFL is a QB-driven league, and the Bills QB contingent could drive a promising developing team right off a cliff...

One other thought, Spikes signing is excellent, and having Kiko on the Outside will allow him to create on the field w/o getting nailed by interior lineman all game. Rivers hasn't exactly lit up the field, but again they signed him at an appropriate contract, so we will see. Seems their approach has been to grab guys who are 1st Rd players who maybe haven't fulfilled their drafting teams' aspirations for them when they were selected. We'll see how this works out. Their Analytics model must have something in it that flags that sort of player based on certain criteria. If this does work, Bills might actually be ahead of the Power Curve as compared to some other teams for once.

Congrats to Whaley on the Spikes, Williams and Graham signings. 1 year "show me" contract for Spikes benefits both sides. Think Mr. Spikes might be a bit motivated and intense when the Bills play the Pats? Could be fun to watch!

Don't hold your breath. Whaley made it clear that he was going with EJ, Thad, Dixon and Tuel.
