junglesouljah
Lions cut cap, release veterans Delmas was slated to make $6.5 million against the cap next season. While he played all 16 games for the Lions in 2013, he was usually on a practice regimen where he would miss two days of practice a week and be able to play in games on Sundays to save his ailing knees. The 26-year-old Delmas was selected by the Lions in the second round of the 2009 draft. In his five seasons with the team, he played in 65 games, making 328 tackles, intercepting six passes and recording five sacks. In all, Detroit saved over $10 million Thursday by cutting Burleson and Delmas, two moves that should put the team under the salary cap in time for the new league year on March 11. http://espn.go.com/nfl/story/_/id/10451445/nate-burleson-released-detroit-lions Profootballtalk reports the Lions hope to re-sign free agent Louis Delmas at a "reduced rate," but that he plans to test the open market. The fact that Delmas obviously wouldn't agree to a pay cut, thereby earning his release, is a sign he's going to exhaust all options before coming back to Detroit. Since he was released, Delmas is free to immediately begin taking visits, and can sign at any time. Although he's unlikely to get the $6 million he was slated to earn before he was cut loose, Delmas shouldn't lack for suitors. He was targeted by the Rams last season, while a reunion with former coach Jim Schwartz in Buffalo could make sense. Feb 13 - 4:01 PM http://www.rotoworld.com/player/nfl/5226/louis-delmas I'm a big fan of Jarius Byrd and want him resigned, but in the event that doesn't happen Louis Delmas would be a great plan B and current DC Jim Schwartz would be reunited with his star FS. Make no question Byrd is the better player and I think he should be paid like a top 5 FS, but if that doesn't happen Delmas can step right in and play at a high level. Buffalo13
This is clearly something to watch. I wonder what price Delmas will command on the open market. I'd much rather work something out with Byrd, however.
bcw
I'd certainly rather resign Byrd long term but if it came down to franchising Byrd again or signing this guy I think I would rather go with this guy long term.
D-Rocafella
We want no part of Delmas. Dude just can't stay on the field. Quote [ I don't tip I pay bills bitches call me Buffalo

bcw
No interest in Delmas, need to keep Byrd! Need to keep him? At any price? I want him back but if he insists on being the top paid safety he can find it somewhere else.
Rob's House
He'd make for a nice contingency plan if Byrd moves on.
Angry Byrds
What about a T. J. Ward swap? If we don't sign Byrd and the Browns let this guy walk, I would take Ward.

I agree. Its funny that some are just blind to wanting to keep a good player and how many think that Buffalo is completely cheap and helpless should Bryd not be re-signed. The same people will be going ballistic if they give him 9 mil/year and he happens to have a 1 interception season and then we can't afford to resign Cordy Glenn because we are paying our free safety 9 million a year. In retrospect I with Buffalo had been more proactive and extended him before it got to this point. Maybe they tried...who knows. I'm in favor of locking up your good players early because you almost always save money that way. Need to keep him? At any price? The Juice
Byrd is the best safety in the NFL. Any other are on better defenses or dry-humping their prime that past several seasons ago. Pay the guy too safety money and put this issue to bed.
U-bomb
Byrd is good but not 9 mill a year good.
