There are two rackets that perpetuate terrible evils in this country. One is "defense." The other is "healthcare." My first job after college was in insurance/pharmaceuticals. Every day there was worse than the day before. Everyone at that call site was on an anti depressant and/or anti anxiety medicine. Why? Well, part of your job was telling people, I'm sorry you have a balance due on your account, so we cannot give you the medicine you need to keep you alive. I lasted 6 weeks there. One morning in March, the sun was shining, the birds were singing, and I called my boss there and told her I am not coming in today, tomorrow, or ever again. Quitting that hell on earth was among the best decisions I ever made. Anyways, both "defense" and "healthcare are rackets." One of the cases I remember was billing a customer 65 dollars for a toothpaste that they could have picked up at the local grocery store for 5 or 6 bucks. Sorry, but much like most military equipment, the costs involved are ripe for graft, fraud, embezzlement and out and out scams.
