thinwhiteduke
Yes I picked Buffalo to win. But this year seems to have a worst to first theme. KC and Buffalo can lose 2 weeks in a row for headlines and then come back. Two Monday games. And I still don't get CBS on the damn tv. The only game I get Sunday afternoon is Detroit , Seattle. StraightJ
(TWD, I did not mean to write so much, and wanted to say I truly appreciate someone willing to put themselves out there with picks in advance, especially someone who notes using a very different metric than most. I did not mean to attempt to hijack your thread and from experience don't think you need to worry about too many people replying to one of my lengthy posts lol. I may make an exception to recent behavior and come in here again more so out of interest in the reaction to your picks than to this post. I hope you keep up your efforts and if you wish to share more about they "why:" of various picks, I'd be interested in adding that to what I get from the talking heads). I'd say TWD's pick of CLE over CIN (at least on here) was bolder than NE winning. IIRC, NE was an official's call away from having a good shot to win vs the team that would be defending their title belt if their QB hadn't fumbled without anyone within 5 yards of him(and I think I actually followed up with TWD's guys who made the SB predictions.... IIRC, they showed how Hurts then inexplicably kicked the ball a good distance out of safety's way so it could go to a KC defender? At this point these things are so unshocking I don't bother to look them up, like when I read about Poyer and Edmunds' "actions"s during the 1st 2 TDs by CIN). Interesting(to me), in the past NE seemed to get that call. Also interesting, I thought their +2 spread would be lower than the CLE example, but CLE was only a 1.5 point underdog vs CIN. I also thought JPP's first 2 picks were rather unbold, and was about to comment on picking the biggest 2 favorites to win straight up, but the Bills at either -8 or -7.5 are a bigger favorite than SF(-7) over LAR. I noticed one small oddity that may or may not interest others. In weeks 2,3, and 4, the Bills play the Broncos' previous weeks' opponent. I have a family member who's been a fan since the Elway days, and even with NH being run out of town prefer to root for them over the other AFC West teams, and the Super Chargers current squad has grown on me too. Interesting to note(for me anyhow), Payton had the same opening week score as Hackett, and his hand picked kicker(traded a 7th to get him from NO) missed an XP in and FG in a 1 point loss. From what I read, fans have not been as enamored with SP as those here who wanted to trade a 1st and whatever else and for the embattled Terry and Kim to pay his salary demands. lol About Russel Wilson, he looked back at times, but not fully. I think I read on here last week that his replacement(Geno) was also "back". ....The "multiple personality disorder" with QBs in "The New NFL" is something I have been making brief mention of fairly often, wondering if anyone else might ever find it nearly as interesting. It's easy enough to write off those who go downhill, or attribute Tua to his GM and the feel-good story of Mike McDaniel who wrote a message inside his youth helmet about making it to the NFL, but Geno Smith and similar are what really interest me. After the last game, I think I may start paying more attention to Josh's face/eyes, and possibly even revisit past games for such. At any rate, for the moment it seems easy enough to root for TWD's NE pick to be correct, but if it is it might appear NE is a more solid a contender in the AFC East than folks on here suppose. PS really hoping I was wrong in denouncing the Shoubox hyperbole about KC. Less than thrilled they worked things out with Chris Jones, but with as many close games as they had last season, just seeing Mahomes look "human" is encouraging. StraightJ
Maybe along with what TWD said, also interesting(to me, at least) how the GM in GB cab abuse a reigning, defending, undisputed(Bruce Buffer, UFC ring announcer) back to back MVP QB and with a QB who looked terrible as I recall vs KC(the game Rodgers was coincidentally banned from, for a positive PCR "test") come out looking like a genius. Yes it's still early, but that is reminding me of Geno and Russ a bit already. Now(if my hypothesis is correct), what happened to RW wasn't going to with Rodgers, and he no longer had a GM who to some appeared to be working against him. TFGs(The The football Gods) could take it up a notch this season if Zach Wilson was also added as a Geno Smith in a 2 for 1 deal to get more young blood replacing the old guard, but other than Broadway Joe I'm not sure if one couldn't day their overall fortune has been worse than the Bills. And maybe Geno's comeback player of the year season filled the quota for QBs drafted by the NYJ? :) Quote Andy did you hear about this one?-REM . "I don't think I'm easy to talk about.
