HipKat
Former Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Buffalo Bills wide receiver Mike Williams died Tuesday, the team confirmed. He was 36. Williams had been hospitalized in Tampa, Fla., since last week following a construction accident that left him partially paralyzed, according to multiple reports. The Tampa Bay Times reported he was taken off a ventilator Thursday, citing Tierney Lyle, the mother of Williams’ 8-year-old daughter. In 2010, Williams made a big impact in his first season for the Bucs, tallying 65 receptions for 964 yards and 11 touchdowns and finishing second in Offensive Rookie of the Year voting. He spent four seasons with Tampa Bay and one with Buffalo. The wideout ended his career with 223 catches for 3,089 yards and 26 touchdowns in 63 games. The Buccaneers selected Williams in the fourth round of the 2010 NFL Draft after a standout career at Syracuse. Quote “There he goes. One of God's own prototypes. A high-powered mutant of some kind, never even considered for mass production. Too weird to live, and too rare to die.”
