Did we really just extend Oliver???

Recommended Posts

Well call me inspired.  I am going to do nothing at work for the next few months and maybe I'll receive a contract extension.

Seriously, at best this frees up some cap space but this is a sucker signing if there ever was one

The guy was a sack of :poop:  last season....ok i will bite...maybe he might be inspired now with McDuffus calling the plays??  We shall see...but it was hilarious earlier with the defensive line coach pretty much calling him Dead from the neck up...lol...

He was okay last season, he was the only one that showed up in a few games, his problem is he's not consistent in doing so. He'll be in on almost every play one game, then doesn't show up for the next 3-4 games. I wouldn't have given him that much, I wonder if the money for this year is included in that, then it wouldn't be so bad, but he definitely needs to step up his game

Hmm, Von Miller 6 years 120mil, Ed Oliver 4 year 68 mil. Not sure which is worse. No wonder the average fan is being priced out.

Deandre who?

Only if we get Hopkins. Otherwise it’s worse then Von Miller signing.

Von Miller was a risky signing due to his age and injury history.  So far it looks like a bad gamble to acquire him for his on-field leadership.

Oliver is very young and still has tremendous upside.

What is the point of drafting players high up and then simply let them walk when their rookie contract is up?

Edmunds was a very flawed player so we correctly let him walk.

Oliver simply has NOT figured it out yet.

In college, Oliver was a very disruptive force inside.  Whether his smallish size translates to the NFL remains still uncertain.

Especially on defense…the side of the ball that *almost* doesn’t really matter…..

look no further than Philly’s “historic” defense in the Super Bowl last year….fucking got carved up.

Ed Oliver. Year 5. He could. Tremendous upside.

They drafted a "move" TE with their first draft pick.

What the fuck are you whining about?

When our OL gets their collective stools pushed in such that 25% of our hand-offs end up with our RB being tackled behind the line of scrimmage, then I will whine with you.

He's a B+ DT guy who will ever aspire to the Pro Bowl tier and he is what he is - that's it. This is the best that Oliver will get for money. He should be very happy about this but not so much for the team. Beane? A little over paid for this one.

15th highest paid DT is fine I guess. Not a lot of splash plays though.  I am actually surprised he signed for that little.

The problem here as I see it is that Beane is gambling on the fact that he gets better. It could happen. I hope we all come back here in 2 or 3 years and Oliver turns out to be a stud and we were all wrong. But he’s already had 5 years to beast out, and he hasn’t. So this is a tough one to gamble on in my opinion. It’s like betting on a stock to go up that has been mediocre for its entire existence. You can win, but there is a lot of risk involved. Wouldn’t you rather bet on the stock that has been performing well?

Maybe HCSM feels like he can devise a better scheme that works out in Oliver’s favor. Maybe he thinks that he can get more out of him than we’ve seen

Yup i have the same thoughts....Im actually a tad bit hopeful that McD can coach more aggressive than what we've seen and not keep on choking when it really matters (ie playoffs!).....Im expecting a different look at least getting @ the QB....I dont think he wouldnt of "politely" excused Frazier if it was all McD defensive play calling last season....
