As soon as I got home from Newfoundland, I scooped some water and brought it to get tested. The experts at Big Al's don't know why there was an ammonia spike 9 days after the transfer from the 45 g to the 90 g tank however they now say the testing shows that the ammonia is back to normal and I did not need to do another 40% water change yet again yesterday afternoon. Having said that, the ammonia spike did cost me $100+ worth of fish. Things have stabilized now. I will do a 30% water change weekly per their instruction and lord knows I have enough different chemicals to add at the water change to make these fish happy. My concern is NOT the money it costs to acquire and maintain a much larger tank but the sheer time it takes to do so. I have a lot on the property that needs my attention. I have wine to make. I have 3 big dogs that crave my attention. Then, of course, I have something that almost none of the Trump Fluffers here have -- a wife -- that also requires my time. I did not want to go deeper into this hobby. I wanted to double the living space of my existing fish to give them a better life. Unfortunately, 9-10 did not make the transfer out of the 50. I will wait another month and then slowly add more fish to replace the ones that did not make it. The same will happen here to posters who will NOT survive the merger.
