Will the Bills draft a WR in the 1st round? What are the odds?

Recommended Posts

The Draft Network Mock Draft - By Jaime Eisner

This mock draft is representative of what may happen in the draft on Thursday.    Let's look at the WRs, and where they are taken.

15. Green Bay -  Jaxon Smith-Njigba -  First WR goes at pick 15

20. Trade - Kansas City - Zay Flowers - Kansas City moves up in front of the Chargers, they are in love with Flowers
21. Chargers - Jordan Addison
23 Houston - Quentin Johnston - Texans grab the last remaining 1st round WR

27 Buffalo - Mazi Smith, DT

If the WRs Beane wants are gone, and Darnell Wright is long gone, he will have to pivot.  IMO that will be Defensive Tackle/BPA.

Left on the board:

O'Cyrus Torrence, OG
Darnell Washington, TE
Will McDonald, Edge
Bryan Breese, DT
Josh Downs, WR
Jalin Hyatt, WR

If JSN, Addison, and Flowers are gone, do not draft a WR in round 1.

Just saw this on Twitter:     Multiple teams medically flunked Darnell Washington & dropped him off their board.

Hmmm.

does he have a significant medical history? I don't remember. I feel like this would have come out a while ago if it were true.

Trade up to get one. Either of those guys could be a more dynamic Cole beasley. Imagine what that would do for this offense. Allen was at his best when beasley was producing.

no thanks. You can find a slot only player later in the draft.

Yeah because all slot guys are the same right? Disagree completely. Why the hell wouldn’t we want the best one?

Did I say all slot guys are the same? IMO there isn't enough separation between flowers and Downs that it would ever make sense to trade up for him. If there was a Jamar Chase or Garret Wilson, by all means trade up and get a potential #1.

You never know.   Cole Beasley was undrafted.  Wes Walker was undrafted.  Julian Edelman was a late 7th rounder.

Beane might trade for Jerry Jeudy, who knows.

I can't find anything.   But sometimes during the Combine medicals, doctors will find something.  Could be arthritis, or bone on bone somewhere, etc.   No way of knowing.   The Combine medical checks are pretty "encrypted".

Yea, that's why I would have figured a poor medical report would have come out in February or shortly thereafter. That stuff usually gets out when its about potential 1st round picks.

Buffalo trades 1st pick to Aizona for their 2nd and D Hop.

Only if Arizona is going to retain a good portion of that Salary!  Hop is going to get cut if he doesnt get traded.  Love to have Hop here but not at the expense of a draft pick.

People need to keep in mind that draft picks are more valuable because of the rookie deals and how the effect the salary cap.  Having 4 or 5 starters on rookie deals is huge for a superbowl contender!

Proven Talent is also great but it comes with a huge financial cost!

DHop is 31 years old next month

DHop's Cap Hit in 2023 is $30.7 million dollars!
DHop's Cap Hit in 2024 is $26.2 million dollars!

Our Cap in 2024 is already screwed with Josh's # jumping to $47 million, Von Miller's to $23.5 million and Diggs' to $27 million!
We just restructured everyone, and extended Milano and Bass, so we pretty much used up our reserve tank of Cap moves.

Without trading for Dhop we are going to be losing at least Ed Oliver and Gabe Davis next year because we can't resign them.  Just like Tremaine.

Otherwise, he would be great talent to have on the team.

I think we all know that we will not draft a WR. Everyone here knows we will get a DE or a DT. Maybe a DB. McD can't help himself.

my guess is DE/DT round one, LB round two, DE/DT round three.

WR in round 5 or later. Just the way McD likes it. The fuck Josh Allen and his needs way. Lets go D !!

Massive holes on defense are forcing the issue. Where would shakir grade out in this class? My guess is late 2nd or 3rd. I'd rather have a pass catching TE anyway.

What are the odds? 49:51.

Even less if we swing a deal for DHop...

If we were drafting 20th, we would get a WR.
Unfortunately we are at 27, and will probably miss out.   Although, there is a chance we get lucky.

I refuse to even read this shit or entertain any thoughts of the Buffalo Bills using a 1st or 2nd round pick on WR. I just can’t. Because they’re not. Stop it with this shit. I’m not even watching the draft. Why stay up to watch them either; A) trade out of it, or B) draft a DT. I refuse to watch that. Fuck that noise.

If the front office had a brain they would build a young healthy offense around Allen,  you get a top WR, TE and RB who are studs instead of brining in older players who have had issues.   DeAndre Hopkins has been injured and was suspended last year as well,  can see this guy playing for the Bills and not finishing the season for some reason putting the Bills in the same fucking spot they are now.    Go young, build from the draft, we don't need players at the end of their careers who are risky.    Diggs will be gone next year most likely if Bills don't go to Super Bowl.    Hopefully Allen is with the Bills for a long time so we need to build this offense the right way not this 1 year contract bullshit or risky players.

Good points.

I believe Beane would draft a WR this year, if a good one fall to 27.   But it looks very unlikely one will reach us.

You can't make everyone else pass on Jordan Addison or Zay Flowers.

Maybe we get lucky at 59, but I am not confident in that.
