So I went out, and I texted my daughter and asked her to describe exactly what was happening and she said that the doors were locked and they had everybody under their desks and kids were crying and freaking out and she was really scared. I mean, I’m crying right now writing this because I remember that day so vividly. So I told her to do whatever the teacher says, and that I was going to call the police in the town and find out what was going on. I did, and I told them about the message I had gotten from my daughter, and she said the school was having a live shooter drill with concussion devices and they had decided not to tell the parents or anybody because they wanted it to be as damn realistic as they could make it. I was absolutely horrified and angry at the same time, and the officer I was talking to said he understood my feelings, but that this matter is so serious. They have to take it so goddamn seriously that they felt it was more important to be as realistic as possible, than it would’ve been for most any other kind of drill. The Police officer apologized and said that the phone has been ringing off the hook for the last 15 minutes with parents who were just as concerned as I was. Concerned. It seems like such a mild way to put it because it was the most terrifying few minutes of my entire life and it wasn’t even real. I can’t even imagine what it must be like to be a parent when your kid is at a school when this happens. I can’t even imagine having to go through that. Of course I just watched the episode of American Idol this morning with the kid from Santa Fe Texas who was in that school shooting where there were eight kids two teachers died and that was pretty emotional. It just immediately makes me wonder which one of my kids schools are going to be the first to call me and tell me that they had a shooter at their school. I can’t wrap my head around it. I just don’t even understand how this keeps happening. I don’t fucking understand why this country is descending into mass chaos and stupidity. Everything is completely out of control. There is nothing in this country that is stable right now. Not one goddamn thing I don’t understand why most people aren’t doing something to stop this. All of it It's absurd. Like I understand the thought process of "we need the kids to take this seriously" getting you to "we shouldn't tell them it's only a drill" but if you keep thinking for literally 3 extra seconds you'll also reach "but that will be incredibly traumatic for everyone involved and maybe we shouldn't do something that insanely cruel."
