Crazy Legs
Last year the Buffalo Bills & Beane brought only 3 Cornerbacks in for a Pre-Draft Visit: CB Emerson Martin, Mississippi St CB Kaiir Elam, Florida CB Andrew Booth, Clemson Of course Beane decided to move UP in the 1st round, using a 4th round pick to do so, to select Kaiir Elam. Was that the right pick? Emerson Martin was drafted by the Browns and had a really good rookie year. Drafted top of the 3rd. His PFF grade as a rookie was 72.5...pretty high. (Kaiir's was 56.7) Emerson faced 89 targets and only allowed 48 catches. That is exceptional. Kaiir was targeted 41 times, and allowed 31 catches. This is Monday morning arm chair scouting, but if the Bills scouts identified these 3 Corners as top potentials - did the scouts have one higher than another? Baldat28
Or they could have just listened to me and take Tariq Woolen in the 4th.....which they would've still had if they didn't use it to trade up 2 spots for a guy that wasn't going before they picked
whorlnut
I was pounding the table to wait until later to get a corner and didn’t HAVE TO BE in round 1. So many fans on this board felt it had to be in the first round. Meanwhile, guys like Emerson, Taylor-Britt, and Woolen look to be the real deal and we could have used that first round pick on, oh I don’t know…an offensive player?

I support Beane, but in this case he went into the draft with NO CORNERBACK to play in Tre White's spot. Plus we had Dane Jackson as the other starter. Thus, IMO he panicked. He traded a 4th, and our 1st, to move up to draft Kaiir Elam. Could have waited, as you pointed out, drafted Emerson, Taylor-Britt and Woolen. And saved that 4th round pick we traded away. Sigh. bcw
Beane says he takes best player available but tends to target positions in the draft. He may have multiple positions to fill in the first few rounds so he’ll take the best player at those positions but at the end of the day he has A, B and C filled with the first 3 picks. He seems to have a certain number of acceptable guys at each position in each round. Once those guys start to come off the board Beane tends to get anxious and sacrifices middle round draft picks to make sure he gets one of the guys on his list.

SackMan518
To be fair to Elam we had a guy who specialized in man-to-man coverage playing zone almost all of the time. I'd like to see what he can do now that Frazier is gone and we can get out of this Tampa 2/Soft Prevent shit we've been playing. 1 Quote Sack "The Buffalo Range's TRUSTED News Source!" “When a well-packaged web of lies has been sold gradually to the masses over generations, the truth will seem utterly preposterous and its speaker a raving lunatic.” ~ Dresden James Twitter: Zack518Mann

Albany,n.y.
Let's wait more than a year to decide. I remember 2 RBs picked before Thurman Thomas in 1988 who outplayed him as rookies. Ickey Woods & John Stephens. Of the 3 only Thurman is in the HOF.

If you are drafted in the 1st round, you are not a "developmental" guy.
