Very Wide Right
Went to the Springsteen show the other night and after the show we stopped at the casino, on the casino floor I found a pristine gold in color 1964 dated Kennedy 50 cent piece.Seems like this thing is worth between 12 bucks all the way up to 7500 bucks on the internet. It has all of the right markings on it from what I have seen. It shines like a mirror, does anyone have any experience with coins?

Plus a handful of coins in the cardboard holders that go back to the 1800's, but I wouldn't call myself a collector 1 Quote “There he goes. One of God's own prototypes. I'm expecting the coin dealer to say it's my lucky day and its ultra rare and then writes me a check for 7K. Thats the fantasy anyway.LMAO

ICRockets2
I don't know anything about coins but I will go to my grave firmly believing the $2 bill is the best thing the US has ever minted or printed.

If you travel overseas, tip in $2 bills. It's a riot.
Professor Pigworth
I don't know if this is the place for it, but I was suddenly reminded of the time when I was away at college and some nasty little lowlife bastard stole my entire coin collection. Just walked right off with it. He was one of my younger brother's friends (which one, I never found out) who was visiting my brother when I was away. My brother had his bedroom down in the basement of my parents' house, and for some reason some of my stuff was stored there, including my coin collection which I'd been saving since I was maybe 12 or 13. There were something like eight albums, all with neatly displayed dimes, nickels and pennies, including buffalo nickels, and the pride of my collection: three or four silver Jefferson nickels from the war years in the 40s. On the chance that he's reading this, you know who you are, you little maggot. You worm. I haven't forgotten what you did. My collection of coins wasn't even particularly valuable, but it was mine and it took me years to collect or find those coins, and I've never collected any coins since, apart from a single commemorative £5 UK coin featuring the Queen (who else?) from maybe 20 years ago but which isn't worth much, since I didn't take care of it properly and didn't store it in an album like I did with my US coins all those years ago. I don't even know where that coin is now. I don't even care about it. I did care about my collection you stole, though, and I wish I had it now. Anyway, may my collection, if you still have it, bring you much misery, disease, financial ruin and impotence and other horrible things. You're a guest in a house and you actually take the opportunity to steal something you see there? What an upstanding person you are. Goddamn you. Goddamn you straight to hell. I hope you're religious, because I'm telling you right now there's a special place in hell for coin thieves like you and that I hope you spend an eternity in it. 1

Some fool thought he had a gold coin, tried to sell it, and then was told he had an electroplate that was only worth about $5. Later, after losing his last dime at the Roulette table he said "fuck my life" and spiked the coin into the carpet. 2

That’s because you are queer as a two dollar bill 👍* * that’s not an insult to you. but it was a saying at one time. Must’ve been derogatory. I wonder if that’s why they never caught on. the LBGTQIRSLBJPOW+1 community should advocate to bring back queer currency!
jc856
I collected coins, but it was 50 years ago, when I was a kid. never saw a gold JFK fiddy cent piece, either Woody is right or is some Franklin mint ripoff. But, maybe not. Too lazy to research. my collection was mostly what most kids had, sleeves of Lincoln pennies, Jefferson nickels, Roosevelt dimes, etc. I had an uncirculated 1909 vdb penny I kept in acrylic. I had some V nickels, standing Liberty half dollars, some silver dollars, even from CC (Carson city) mint. most of my collection was in very good to poor range, as far as grade. Wee wuz pohr. my dream coin( HEY!! This was before I discovered God’s Greatest Invention, the Pussy!) was the 1804 silver dollar. At the time I collected, that was the pinnacle of collecting. It was worth around 100K back then, because they were rare. Professor, I’ll give your stupid collection back. Big fucking baby😎 EDIT: I had a nice collection of Mercury dimes, almost complete, but missing the most expensive ones. It was the pride of my sets, and I’m just remembering it now. Thanks OP!

Popular Post Bumbles247
I can share a little of what I know. The 1964 Kennedy halfs are generally the most collectible since it was the first year they were made, and they were the only Kennedys made out of 90% silver. After 1964 all the "silver" coins were made with 40% silver for a couple more years and then they became the mostly copper, silver colored things we have to this day. It also would have been the only Kennedy half to have the mint mark on the reverse side. If there is one, it would be a D underneath the left side eagle's talon. That would mean it was minted in Denver. Otherwise it was minted in Philadelphia. But none of this means much, except to say that's why it's worth at least $14 or so. I never heard of the government minting any Kennedy's with any gold plating. But there were numerous places like the Danbury Mint and many similar places that would plate certain coins and then sell them as special collector's items. That's likely what happened here. I doubt it makes it worth much more, but I'm not a total expert by any means so for sure check it out. Usually if you see a similar coin going for thousands of dollars it's because for some reason there were very few of that year and mint produced (that didn't happen to Kennedy's in 1964), or there's some rare mis-strike or something odd happened during the minting. These would be a small percentage within the total minting of the coin for the year, and in most cases only experts would even know what to look for. So I won't say it's worth a lot, but I'd be surprised if it is. More likely it was someone's good luck charm and he lost it while pulling his vape pen out. But good luck to you.
