SackMan518
March and April and easily the two most exciting months of the NFL off-season. It's fun for fans, but for obvious reasons it's stressful for players, coaches and front office personnel. The Buffalo Bills have stayed busy with quite a few free agent signings to bolster the offense, which despite the top five placement in yards and points per game in 2022, was clearly not right down the stretch and in the playoffs. The Bills have added offensive lineman Connor McGovern, quarterback Kyle Allen, running back Damien Harris and wide receivers Deonte Harty and Trent Sherfield. Buffalo has lost linebacker Tremaine Edmunds, running back Devin Singletary, quarterback Case Keenum and safety Jaquan Johnson in free agency, while also releasing wide receiver Isaiah McKenzie. But could the Bills be ready to trade one of their star defensive players? There has been some trade speculation on social media about defensive tackle Ed Oliver, since the Bills have not signed the four-year pro to a new contract extension, with only his fifth-year option left on his rookie deal. Oliver posted a cryptic Instagram story, that says "enjoyed myself," while showing a clip of him sacking Minnesota Vikings quarterback Kirk Cousins. Oliver's cap hit is $10.7 million, which is also the dead cap number. Oliver for a wide receiver target is something that makes more sense in return and money in/out, but would be a blockbuster. The Bills would have to decide that Oliver won't be extended after 2023 and the player coming in would make comparable money. You never want to sacrifice depth and skill at any position, but general manager Brandon Beane has to decide where to allocate money. The Bills may decide they will sacrifice defense to help the offensive firepower. Baldat28
I'd guess he was probably hoping the Bills would've come to him and talk extension, they likely haven't done so yet and he's letting it known which team he'd want to go too

Thurmal
Why would anyone give up valuable assets to rent a mediocre DT for one year at $10 MM?
Crazy Legs
The Bears would have to be totally drunk, and it is last call. Would I trade the Bills for Ed Oliver and his expensive 2023 Cap Hit. Knowing he is a free agent in 2024? No way. Probably just Twitter rumors. Arizona can't trade DeAndre Hopkins and he is under contract for 2 years.

It the same level of drunkenness to stick with Justin Fields as your QB or trade away the number one pick or pay Edmunds $18 mil/yr.
daryls61
Let Oliver play out his final year and take the 3rd round comp pick. Your not getting better than a 3rd for Oliver, IMO. That would be smart, but, there’s already another thread talking about how bad the Bills are at getting compensatory picks. To get one you need to sign less players then you sign and the Bills always want to sign some back-up that cancels a Gilmore/Edmunds 3rd rounder 1 Quote Ed Oliver is my adopt-a-Bill

For the last 15 years, or more, we have made no effort to balance out how we sign Free Agents with regard to the Compensatory Formula. This year, we are actually close. But that is mostly due to Beane not having any money to spend on FAs so there haven't been as many, and most of his signings have been below the threshold of $2 million per year in salaries.
