Did we overpay for Von? Yes. However, when he was healthy the defense was good enough to beat anyone. Watch the season up to Thanksgiving and then watch it after. Von's injury hurt them bad. The Bungles probably don't put up 27 with a healthiesh Von. The Bungles probably still would have won because Ken Doorknob could have Cookie,OJ, Cribbs or Thurmal as his backs and he still wouldn't run, but the Bungles don't put up 27. The Bengals had 3 backup OL that day. Von would have dominated and that would have opened things up for other players. Like you said watch the defense with Von and without him. It was a big difference.
f8ta1ity54
Star QB plays through arm injury, star pass rusher lands on IR, Star CB returning from major knee injury wasn't himself right away. The worst gamble was at LG. that didnt pan out.
Sucked In Again
Woulda, Shoulda, Couda... fact is we're now in cap hell thru 2026 for a hall of famer who hasn't been able to play a full season on a limited basis. As mentioned all hindsight, but money would have been better spent elsewhere. 2022 was the peak for VM with the Bills and it didn't work. Would have been nice to have a younger stud OL going into 2023 and still be able to sign some mid range FA this year. 2

Buffalochief2
75% of the people on this site called Edmunds crap, 100% called Saffold crap, so now that they are gone and we upgraded the O-line with more new players coming, we are a crap team? Doesn’t make much sense. Just because other teams add players doesn’t mean they will be good, see the entire AFC west last year. KC lost players, all other teams in the division got “better”, still ended with the same results.

Mahomes playing with inferior talent, playing with a high ankle sprain, and still wins the World Football Federation belt. Almost like it was gifted to him at the start of the season. But hey, nothing to see here folks.

The Bills are not even close to this situation. Get a clue.

My take is when your talent level is clearly declining to competitors in your division, in addition to having less cap space than all to increase or at a minimum maintain the gap. Looks like the Bills win totals 2014 - 2018, 9, 8, 7, 9, 6. Bills will not win their division this year, and are hopefully able to sneak in as a WC. I used to say when the Bills sucked and they had to clear cap room - 'How can we be in cap trouble? A 12-4 team that gets knocked out in the divisional round should be in cap trouble trying to make that extra push. A 7-9 team shouldn't. " We are there.
