‘It’s legal, there’s just no precedent’: the first US town to demand a rent decrease

Reality is that as long as you live where you do, you can either accept it or live under a bridge in some box.

There will never be full socialism in the USA.  In fact, all the talk of socialism does is give the far right talking points to use against their political opponents.

The far right calls the center-right democratic party socialists. Who cares what they think?

Here's another tidbit:  If the market rents are high and a landlord is trying to be a good guy & keep rents low, his property taxes will be based on the market rents.  Unless the building is restricted by rent control or stabilization, his taxes go up as market rents increase if assessments are kept up to date.

So tell me what country that doesn't have capitalism is a leading developer of any kind of technology or pharmaceutical?

How could a socialist state be successful when the capitalist class around the world wants to ensure that it doesn't? As long as countries try to move towards socialist policies, countries like the US will continue to destabilize them.

There's no socialism fuckin anywhere, shitforbrains.  Where would you have me move that has socialism?

That's my point.  You have to accept where you live.  Obviously when you have to suddenly resort to insults, you have no answer.  You live in a dream world that is not possible.  You want the truth about socialism?  You can't handle the truth.

Yeah, the system forces landlords to be bad people the same way it forces cops to be bad people.  We know.  That's why we're attacking the system.

"Listen, I know it's really unfair that you're owned as property, but you live here!  These damned slaves are always calling me names when I explain to them that the system works and is good and is unchangeable, that's how I know they have no real arguments against slavery.  They're just jealous of freedmen."

Why do we have to accept this reality?

Do you agree or disagree that government housing would be better for the majority of americans?

Slavery used to be reality.  Women's suffrage used to be a fantasy.  The monarchy used to be reality.  Democracy used to be a fantasy.

Systems change when people rise up and make them change.  Stop being such a brainless fucking cuck.

Disagree.  Most people want to live in a house they own.  They don't want to be tenants, but sometimes they have to.  I rented for over 25 years before I bought a house, but I still wanted a house.

None of this has anything to do with housing.  Stop living in a 1 person bubble.

You already pay rent as a home owner. It's called property taxes.

You're missing the point of single-family home ownership.  Economically, it's not a very good deal.  With mortgages, taxes, and maintenance, it costs more than renting, but if you polled everyone, single family housing will win out.  That's because having your own land and building is a favored amenity.

Now, once the house is paid for, it's a different story.  A paid off house is cheaper to live in than a small apartment.

Like IC mentioned, you could have government housing that is essentially "rent to own".

Long Island cannot function without minimum-wage or "unskilled" labor.  The people doing that labor should be able to afford to live in Long Island.

LINY (as are most areas in NY) is an unfortunate product of NYC and all that it is! I grew up in LINY, it was expensive before I left (compared to other comparable areas in other states) and it’s the same now, relative to a deflated currency.

You're not ending capitalism.  With every post & insult you just look more ridiculous.

We advocate for Market Socialism. It gives ownership to the people instead of a handful of powerful elites, who are clearly poisoning the planet for profit right now. Markets would still exist. Billionaires would not.

Trying to force government to produce a “reduced rent law” is completely illogical and counter-productive!

Anything that helps the people is counter productive and illogical.

Anything that helps the capitalist class is perfect and wonderful.

Gotcha.

🤣 Aww, thank you for that, it made my minute! Force anybody that can produce and has produced enough to now support those that can’t/won’t/haven’t! Perfect way to create an equally deficient population (except those “elites”), good job commies 👍🤦‍♂️.
