This is the first real battle at the World Cup.

Poland = NATO Russia haters.

Mexico = Big Russia pals.

You know who I'll be rooting for!

Vaya con dios, Mexico!

That PK goes in and they win.

It was poetic justice.

They didn't deserve to win.

I loved playing soccer, and I love watching the Premier League (England). Can't watch the MLS, bores me to tears. That being said, not interested in this winter world cup nonsense. Mark my words, this is being played in the winter to keep the world distracted. They are going to try something.

It's freaking soccer.  Who gives a rat's ass?  Hardly anyone.

Depends.  Its king in much of the rest of the world to the point that it has both stopped and started wars and civil wars.  You think people going to the airport to meet the Bills after a major win or rioting after the Eagles win a title is something? Nah, that's tame.  European politics has two seasons, football season where people demonstrate in the street over sport and protest season where people -often the same -demonstrate against government.  How crazy is the rest of the world over soccer?  Well during World Youth Day in Madrid back in 2011 there was a friendly between a Spanish football all star team (made up of mostly stars of yesteryear, and by that I mean people who had grown older and grayer and more pudgy than most on here) and an international team of the same sort of long retired all stars.  Well, I bought a bottle of Fanta (if you've ever been to Spain oh man the fanta is amazing) and the stadium guard forced me to take the lid off.  It didn't click until later that they were afraid that I was going to throw it onto the field.  Then there were the Argentinians.  Holy shit, you'd think this was some sort of playoff game by the way they were acting.  The Americans, well it was a lot like the Simpsons soccer episode, we were saying so should be cheering now, is this kick important, what's going on?  Beautiful stadium with amazing sightlines that would be on par with most NFL stadiums, but I couldn't tell you jack shit about the game.

As far as the World Cup itself, well while I disagree with John Oliver's take on Russia, I do generally agree with him on FIFA and my God the human rights abuses, especially those of the laborers who built the stadiums in Qatar, taints the spectacle.  So yeah, while I don't care for soccer in much the same way I don't really care about baseball, NBA basketball, nascar, golf, tennis, horse racing, boxing, or "professional wrestling" the difference is I would watch an MLB, NBA, NASCAR, PGA, Tennis, horse race, boxing or wwe event.  FIFA? Well not so much

If you asked me to express my position on the World Cup it would be pretty much exactly this, except I don't know if I agree or disagree with John Oliver about Russia because I don't know what his take is specifically and also I love pro wrestling
