Herodotus
If I were a multibillionaire I buy stocks in raytheon and become majority owner and that company starts making ploughshares. I then buy up two or three news channels and a social media company and start the job of deprogramming people. I also buy, or at least rent enough politicians to have influence in congress and have enough votes to force a public and open audit of the Pentagon, CIA, State Dept and orgs like USAID. See, I think this illustrates a bit of the difference between us. This feels like the sort of answer an authoritarian "leftist" would give. I'll take over the corrupt institutions and I'm so virtuous that I can uncorrupt them. I think it betrays the shallowness of your anti-capitalist bona fides, if I'm being honest. When given billions of dollars, your first thought was that if you could just become the most powerful person in the world you'd fix everything. Nobody who actually understands that these systems can't be uncorrupted would take that approach. But this is roughly the intellectual and ideological standard I have come to expect from Nazbols, so I'm glad to have that in mind going forward. Personally, my first impulse was to buy a bunch of rental properties and house as many homeless and housing-insecure people as I can. And buy some businesses and sell them back to the workers to form co-ops. Feels like the right answer for a left libertarian/libertarian socialist, no? Here's the problem though, it may not get done otherwise. I do see where you are coming from, but the question is how do we get those in power to change their ways? They won't audit and defund the black hole that is the CIA and the Pentagon. The people don't know about exactly how much money goes to endless regime change war. You hate Putin for Ukraine? I appreciate that, but damn we have spent six trillion + all those hundreds of billions on wars and regime change since 2000 alone and all we get are the seeds of future conflicts (and I think that is by design because they gotta perpetuate the scam to keep the profits coming in) a tattered social safety net, a collapsing infrastructure, rampant homelessness (its not mental illness and poor life choices, its people are literally being priced out of their homes), people dying because they can't afford to eat or get medical care. As I see it there are 5 things destroying this country. 1. Out of control offense spending 2. Endless bailouts for the rich 3. Endless funding with no oversight to the intel apparat 4. A very dangerous alliance between the state and industry 5. A public kept ignorant and distracted. My aim would be to spend my billions giving power back to the people. Making congress and the media actually do their jobs would free up a lot of capital that could then be applied to those things you and I want, healthcare, better schools, affordable housing, social security, basic minimum income, and ensuring that while we may have the poor with us always homelessness and hunger would be all but gone. By the way, thanks for staying on topic. Too many here don't seem to be able to

The fact remains that we can't change the minds and behavior of the people in power any more than we can ask corporations to stop putting profits over people. They NEED to behave reprehensibly because they are piloting a system that survives because of its reprehensibility. We need to show people there's a better way, and IMO the best way to do that with billions of dollars is using it to kickstart a mutual aid movement.

Too many here don't seem to be able to The only way to get those empowered to change their ways is by offering them more money and more power than the last guy did Quote “There he goes. One of God's own prototypes. A high-powered mutant of some kind, never even considered for mass production. Too weird to live, and too rare to die.”
