drpepper
In the four days since news broke of a civil lawsuit alleging gang rape by former Bills punter Matt Araiza and two others, plenty has happened. Most recently, his parents issued a lengthy statement to KUSI in San Diego. PFT has confirmed that the message, attributed to “Mr. and Mrs. Araiza, parents of Matt Araiza,” [more]View the full article

Herodotus
If he is innocent he will be able to sue for damages, and he will be able to land on any NFL team he wants. If he is guilty, someone should punt his balls 82 yards.

The NFL? lmao Good luck with that lawsuit. And either way I seriously doubt he'll ever play in the NFL again. 2 Quote [/img]

If he can prove he's truly innocent, he'll sue the lawyer of the accused (and possibly his firm if he's part of one) for defamation. If he can't prove his innocence in the minds of the public, he's done in the NFL.

Pretty sure the only way he could sue the woman's lawyer and win would be if they could prove the lawyer knew the allegations were false yet proceeded anyway. I think they call it a frivilous lawsuit. Quote [/img]

His reputation will still be irreparably tainted, because if he is hypothetically cleared, the media will cover that with about 20% as much gusto as the allegation, of that much. The tough spot he is in is that it seems that he has admitted to a consensual encounter with a minor. The law doesn't really provide any leniency for not knowing she was underage - he wouldn't be able to use the believable excuse that he thought she was a fellow college student because they met at a college party. DannyBoy
He could clear his name if he sued and won. I am curious about the girl's diary. Who at 17 keeps a diary anymore? Maybe some do. How far back does it go. Is the ink the same throughout indicating some doctoring. I'm just saying look at everything. Oh, and now the police and DA's office get involved after all this time and it's reported (It could be news hype statement) that charges are likely. I don't doubt she was raped by someone, as in multiple assaults, but we don't know as of yet who they all were and was Araiza in on the sexual assault in the residence? She was drunk by her own admission and "in and out of consciousness". What does she remember in that state? What can she be expected to remember. she claims she was drugged also. Really? Was a blood draw performed? Attacking the alleged victim doesn’t work for Araiza.

There are too many unknowns but since she went to the police fairly quickly, I do not understand why the police sat on this. Privilege of sports figures in the community? Not totally believing her story?
