Woody
Nice. Thanks, Sloppy Joe! President Joe Biden announced a new round of military aid for Ukraine, roughly $1 billion, on Wednesday afternoon. This aid brings the total amount of military aid the United States has provided to Ukraine north of $5.5 billion since Russia invaded at the end of February. Biden, he said in a statement, informed Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky by phone that the United States would be providing the additional military aid for Ukraine. The assistance will include “additional artillery and coastal defense weapons, as well as ammunition for the artillery and advanced rocket systems that the Ukrainians need to support their defensive operations in the Donbas,” Biden explained. The aid coincides with Pentagon chief Lloyd Austin's Defense Contact Group meeting in Brussels with NATO and non-NATO Western ally defense ministers. Nearly 50 of Austin's counterparts attended the in-person meeting, including Ukrainian Minister of Defense Oleksii Reznikov. Austin told reporters after the meeting concluded that the aid includes guided MLRS munitions, 18 M777 howitzers, the tactical vehicles to tow them, and 36,000 rounds of 155 millimeter ammunition. The U.S. is also sending two Harpoon coastal defense systems, thousands of secure radios, thousands of night vision devices, and thermal sights under the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative. In a press conference before the meeting, Austin implored his colleagues to "push ourselves even harder to ensure that Ukraine can defend itself — its citizens and its territory" — while NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg pledged more military aid to Ukraine. "We are extremely focused on stepping up, providing more support, more advanced weapons ... because we support them in their just fight against the brutal Russian invasion," Stoltenberg said at a press conference. Ukraine will still receive "practical support, lethal and nonlethal support, from NATO allies and NATO" that would allow it "to continue to modernize its armed forces, something NATO allies have worked on for many years but stepped up now." The announcement came less than 24 hours after Zelensky pleaded publicly that the aid “must come faster if we all live by the same goal,” and he added, “We have shown our strength, and now, it is very important that our Western partners show this strength together with us.” The Biden administration has gradually increased the weaponry it is providing to Ukraine despite holding off on sending every item on the Ukrainians' request list, such as fighter jets. Biden's team has also been hesitant to provide weapons to Ukraine that could be used to hit targets within Russia, though it appears that the administration may have softened its stance on the matter. Thebowflexbody
What is the big upside to all this exactly? Can't remember and not seeing it. Another forever war?
Herodotus
Damn, the Donetsk and Lugansk people's militias will be able to equip themselves with NATO gear for the rest of the war. By the way, its not looking too good for Ukraine in the Donbass right now and here's a little don't be surprised: Don't be surprised when Ukraine's much talked about summer offensive doesn't go very far and don't be surprised when the Russians take Odessa, Nikolayevsk, Kharkhov, Zaprozhiye, and liberate the rest of the Donetsk and Lugansk republics. Remember constant warfare is our economic stimulus package. Never mind that a lot of the weapons we give to the Ukrainians are already in the hands of Putin's proxies and just as many are probably in the hands of terrorist groups nobody -us, Russia, China, NATO, etc- wants them to have. Nevermind, the money will flow into the hands of the MIC oligarchs.

The American people have already been fleeced on Ukrainian nazism what the Russians spend on Defense in a normal year, some 55 billion. The Russophile and anti-imperialist laughs at me that Russia is blowing up the NATO Empire plans, the taxpayer in me wants to know just where this money is going. I mean there are all sorts of pics of Donbass freedom fighters using high tech US arms and there are also reports that Ukraine is selling on a lot of our munitions to third parties, some of whom are tied to terrorist organizations. You think the Buffalo or Texas shootings were bad? They were, they were horrendous, but give this war enough time and terrorists of both domestic and foreign make will be in possession of some very deadly weapons tech and lots of Americans will pay a price. Its coming, its just a matter of time. BTW, every indicator I am seeing is of a massive Ukrainian loss. They are losing at least a thousand a day, morale in the Ukrainian army is at an all time low, training gets poorer, so while we are funneling weapons in for them to use, they don't know how to use them. Yeah, Russia is toying with them. My take is Russia and its allies have about 15,000 dead, and Ukraine's are between 60,000 dead and 170,000 dead. Plus Russia has learned well from us as to what not to do. So they are digging in, inviting the Ukes to come to their well prepared divisions and then using their superiority in artillery, missiles, and aircraft to wipe the Ukes out. Ukraine is bleeding white. Russia? Well hurrah Ukraine may have sank a 40 year old ship that was soon off to the scrap yard anyways (even though there is considerable evidence a Kalibr failed to launch and exploded in the tube causing immense damage) and 13 generals (but only 3 active duty have been confirmed and one retired have been confirmed). Such wins people. . . . For Russia. . . .
HipKat
Why don’t we just send every dollar this country has left to Ukraine so that we can continue fighting this war with Russia and pretending it’s Ukraine that’s fighting them. Better yet, why don’t we just come out and admit that we’re at war with Russia, and stop tiptoeing around it Quote “There he goes. One of God's own prototypes. I am sure the crazy rich in the MIC don't care, but this is but the latest battle by proxy of the Cold War. Never should have happened but we took peace and kicked it in the nuts and now our sanctions are kicking us in the nuts but the Oligarchs are making bank so its okay I guess.
