Russia's utter incompetence

For decades, Russia has been the world's second most powerful military. Today, it is the second most powerful military inside Ukraine.
How in the world did a nation with such a significant military overmatch get into a quagmire against a much weaker power?
Just what is wrong with the Russian military?

 

 

• Egg cartons instead of ERAs on tanks
• Blatant corruption so deep Ukraine sent a congratulatory letter to the Russian minister of defense praising his efforts in the matter.
• Actual cardboard used for troop's body armor (WTF!!!)

I mean makes you wonder why good ol' Adolf didn't finish off the USSR in 2 weeks back in the day, as it seemed it had to be... considering those problems ALWAYS existed. Well those pesky generals of his decided to target Moscow not the oil of the Caucasus, and I guess Stalin that butcher got simply lucky. But I digress...

Same deal. Russia would have been crushed if it weren't for America subsidizing them based on some Commie infiltrators giving FDR egregiously bad advice which led to the proliferation of a murderous ideology that also made them a superpower and spread to other countries. In that scenario Stalin actually hid in his quarters getting drunk and sobbing until his subordinates had to drag his ass out of there and get him back in the fight.

It’s clear that Russia spent all their money on missle and nuclear tech and ignored their conventional forces - their equipment is shit and their lack of NCO development in their enlisted ranks is quite evident.

1. I don't put a lot of credit in random youtube videos
2. To borrow from Bismarck, Russia is never as strong as it appears and it is never as weak as it appears.
3. Corruption has been very much part of the Russian state since the time of Peter the Great
4. Good ole Adolf? No, that just invites Godwin's law and I ain't doing it.

Seriously, part of the reason 1941 and 1942 were so disastrous for the Red Army is that the Soviets were planning for hope against hope that there would not be war until at least 1943.  Their third five year plan, launched in 1938, was designed to provide the Red Army with all the equipment and weaponry it would need to fight any threat.  1941 they took on the greatest military in Europe at the time and the fact that they survived until 1943 is remarkable.  Now some of it is because of Lend Lease, but by and large its because although the purges decimated the designers of Deep Battle such as Tukhachevsky, many of the students were thrust into leadership positions.  Soldiers such as Zhukov, Konev, Rokossovsky, Rotmistrov, Vatutin, Vasilevsky.

Also, stuff not really discussed in the video.  For reasons unknown to me, really I have asked my Russian sources on this, but the feeling is its to hide operational intelligence from NATO on newer weaponry, the Russians have been holding most of their newer heavier weapons systems (tanks, self propelled artillery, APVs) out of the combat zone in case they have to take on NATO directly except as Jayhall says for their missile systems.  Their missiles, not very much reported in the west, are having an enormous effect on Ukraine, except for some reason that they are not demolishing rail junctions and road junctions, and have only recently started taking out some of the rail bridges on the Dniepr.  

My contention is this, Putin was not planning this war, he was dragged into it.  Buh Gibby I watch me CNN and BBC and I hear Zelensky so I knows the troof, the Rooskies planned this war.  Well, except for 8 years Ukraine shelled ethnic Russians, constantly violated the Minsk Agreements, and NATO armed and trained the nazis for  years.  Oh yes, wanna know what's true anymore? Look and see what stories get you banned from twitter and facebook and go from there.  The ultimate factor in the war of course was Biden and Stolenberg laughing off Putin's security concerns.  So yeah, he was dragged into this war.
