Dave Chappelle Issues Statement After Being Attacked During Netflix Is A Joke Comedy Festival

2022.05.05-03.02-boundingintocomics-6273

In response to the attack, Deadline reports Chappelle issued a statement that begins, “Dave Chappelle celebrated four nights of comedy and music, setting record-breaking sales for a comedian at the Hollywood Bowl.

It continued, “This run ties Chappelle with Monty Python for the most headlined shows by any comedian at the Hollywood Bowl, reaching 70k fans of diverse backgrounds during the first Netflix Is A Joke: The Festival, and he refuses to allow last night’s incident to overshadow the magic of this historic moment.”

“As unfortunate and unsettling as the incident was, Chappelle went on with the show. Jamie Foxx and Chris Rock helped calm the crowd with humor before Chappelle introduced the last and featured musical guests for the evening, hip-hop artists yasiin bey and Talib Kweli, a.k.a. Black Star, who performed music from their new album – the first in nearly 24 years – which was released on Luminary,” it read.

“Other special comedic guests last night included Earthquake, Leslie Jones, Jeff Ross, Sebastian, Jon Stewart and Michelle Wolf,” the statement concluded.

LA County DA's Office Won't Charge Alleged Chappelle Attacker With Felony

The Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office on Thursday said it would not charge the armed man accused of attacking comedian Dave Chappelle on stage at the Hollywood Bowl with a felony.

Isaiah Lee, 23, was arrested for assault with a deadly weapon after allegedly attacking Chappelle Tuesday night while carrying a knife that looked like a handgun.

"After reviewing the evidence, prosecutors determined that while criminal conduct occurred, the evidence as presented did not constitute felony conduct," a spokesman for the DA's office said.

"The District Attorney's Office does not prosecute misdemeanor crimes within the city of Los Angeles."

Los Angeles prosecutor Jon Hatami criticized Los Angeles District Attorney George Gascón's decision not to file a felony case against Lee.

"Anyone who arms themselves with a deadly weapon, in this case a knife, and violently attacks an innocent person, famous or not, should be charged accordingly," Hatami said. "With only a misdemeanor charge, the person could be released soon, with only a slap on the wrist.

"That fails to provide justice to the victim, accountability for this person's actions and safety to the general public. These concepts, however, like public safety and justice, that most of us value, are concepts George Gascón can care less about."

Campaign report reveals Soros pumping $1.5 million into Los Angeles County D.A. race

LOS ANGELES, CA– A campaign report released on Friday, September 25th, reveals that philanthropist George Soros is funding Democrat George Gascón in the race for Los Angeles County district attorney.

Soros, who is said to have the same “progressive” views as Gascón, has made a $1.5 million donation to a political action committee in order to unseat the current L.A. district attorney, Jackie Lacey.

Wadafuq is wrong with people? Chapelle has always been edgy and unafraid to tackle issues that makes society uncomfortable.  From just the Chapelle shoe we had Clayton Bigsby, the N****r family, the racial draft, making fun of McDonalds.  If you don't like Dave well then don't watch him because he isn't going to stop poking fun at things just because you find it offensive and nor should he.

Howard Stern Reacts to Dave Chappelle Attack, Says Hollywood Should Be 'Ashamed' of Will Smith Slap Response

"They didn't break Will's hands, they shook them, and it's wrong," The Howard Stern Show host said of the way Will Smith slapping Chris Rock at the Academy Awards was handled

Howard Stern is calling out Hollywood hypocrisy.

The Howard Stern Show host spoke about Will Smith slapping Chris Rock at the Oscars on the show Wednesday, and compared it to Dave Chappellebeing randomly attacked on stage at the Netflix Is a Joke comedy festival.

During his radio show, Stern explained why the events — and the reactions to them — were hypocritical.

"This guy jumped up on stage and attacked Dave Chappelle," Stern said. "As soon as that happened, did they let him go back to his seat and laugh and sit next to his wife and then give them an award? No! They took him backstage, they broke his arms and hands so bad. They fucking beat the shit out of him."

Stern, 68, also noted specific celebrity responses in both assaults. "Unlike the Academy Awards, Jamie Foxx came running out on stage and helped Dave Chappelle. At the Academy Awards, everyone came over and consoled Will Smith — because it was live television and Hollywood didn't know what to do about Will Smith."

At the Oscars, Smith did go on to win his first-ever Academy Award after slapping Rock on stage. At the Netflix event, which was witnessed by a PEOPLE staffer, the attacker was immediately apprehended.

Stern shared passionate feelings about that particular difference. "Listen! You don't treat Will Smith any different than they did the Chappelle attacker," Stern said. "The audience at the Oscars gave Will Smith a standing ovation after the attack, that's the truth. It's on film, it's not fake news. They didn't break Will's hands, they shook them and it's wrong and they all should be ashamed of themselves."

At the time Chappelle was attacked on Tuesday night, he had just made a joke about Smith, 53. The attacker rushed the stage wearing a black hoodie and pushed Chappelle before attempting to flee. He was later identified as an aspiring rapper called NoName Trapper, who released a 2020 song called "Dave Chappell."

Wannabe rappers are always looking for ways to gain notoriety.  Unfortunately for him, his career is likely over.  No self-respecting rapper wants to be known for getting their head stomped in by Dave Chappelle. :niterider:

For a while I was pretty sure he was but over the last two years he’s kind of gotten away from the naked dudes in the studio thing, thank God. On this one though, he’s pretty close although Will Smith didn’t use a weapon like the guy who attacked Dave Chapelle did. And right or wrong at least you can attach some sort of provocation to the Will Smith incident. This guy the other night who attacked Dave Chapelle was not provoked and had a weapon and just jumped the stage and attacked him without cause. Quite frankly I favor the beat down
