US needs to accept COVID ‘new normal,’ ex-Biden health advisers say

Interesting, 6 top health experts (Biden affiliated by the way) now recommending a total change in COVID strategy including lumping in COVID-19 with every other respiratory virus and calling it a day. They also admit in their paper that the vaccines are what we said they were:

The goal for the “new normal” with COVID-19 does not include eradication or elimination, eg, the “zero COVID” strategy.2 Neither COVID-19 vaccination nor infection appear to confer lifelong immunity. Current vaccines do not offer sterilizing immunity against SARS-CoV-2 infection. Infectious diseases cannot be eradicated when there is limited long-term immunity following infection or vaccination or nonhuman reservoirs of infection. The majority of SARS-CoV-2 infections are asymptomatic or mildly symptomatic, and the SARS-CoV-2 incubation period is short, preventing the use of targeted strategies like “ring vaccination.” Even “fully” vaccinated individuals are at risk for breakthrough SARS-CoV-2 infection. Consequently, a “new normal with COVID” in January 2022 is not living without COVID-19.

US needs to accept COVID ‘new normal,’ ex-Biden health advisers say

The US urgently needs to adopt a new national pandemic strategy that accepts “COVID-19 is here to stay,” a group of President Biden’s former health advisers said Thursday.

Six health experts, who were part of the advisory board who counseled Biden during his transition, made the arguments in three articles published in the Journal of the American Medical Association.

With the Omicron variant raging and driving new cases to record highs, the experts argue the US response needs to shift away from trying to wipe out the virus completely — and instead accept the “new normal.”

“As the US moves from crisis to control, this national strategy needs to be updated. Policy makers need to specify the goals and strategies for the ‘new normal’ of life with COVID-19 and communicate them clearly to the public,” they wrote.

“It is imperative for public health, economic, and social functioning that US leaders establish and communicate specific goals for COVID-19 management, benchmarks for the imposition or relaxation of public health restrictions, investments and reforms needed to prepare for future SARS-CoV-2 variants and other novel viruses, and clear strategies to accomplish all of this.”

The experts argued their multi-layered strategy doesn’t include a “zero COVID” approach because infectious diseases can’t just be eradicated when there’s “limited long-term immunity following infection or vaccination.”

They called on Biden and his team to acknowledge that COVID is one of several respiratory viruses circulating, including influenza.

“COVID-19 must now be considered among the risks posed by all respiratory viral illnesses combined,” they wrote.

“Policy makers should retire previous public health categorizations, including deaths from pneumonia and influenza or pneumonia, influenza and COVID-19, and focus on a new category: the aggregate risk of all respiratory virus infections.”

They say the Biden administration needs to work out what numbers of hospitalizations and deaths will cause the health care systems to overload — and then use those benchmarks to trigger emergency measures.

The articles also suggest improvements to testing and surveillance, as well as vaccines — including providing free tests to those on Medicaid and access to free or low-cost testing for every other American.

“The Biden administration’s plan to distribute 500 million at-home rapid tests and ramp up production using the Defense Production Act is an important step in the right direction but many more are needed,” the experts wrote.

To cope with COVID and respond to future public health threats, the experts say the US also has to develop an integrated data system that can collect figures on respiratory viral infections, hospitalizations and deaths in real-time on a local and state level.

Among those who authored the articles are Dr. Luciana Borio, a former chief FDA scientist, and Dr. Ezekiel Emanuel, an oncologist and University of Pennsylvania professor.

Why do I find it super coincidental that now since we are in flu season and the virus has mutated into basically the flu, that we are now looking to take the approach that it's pretty much like the flu in that we can't eradicate it, and that we must just live with it?

Weren't these the things that people such as myself have said from the beginning, and that it wasn't worth the damage to businesses, schools, children, and the economy?

The whole entire thing was a sham from the start. This was the approach that needed to be taken two years ago. Except for the new normal thing...fuck that shit completely.

Yup, they need to ban the vaccines too because they're just causing mutations to occur using the same mechanism as overprescribed antibiotics. The future is therapeutics. Pfizer just happens to have a new magic pill.
