StraightJ
By the Almighty, this is one of the songs that most inspires me when I hear it, and I'm so glad I recalled it. If only more folks would heed the admonishments right about now. I included the lyrics so those not familiar could see how it fits, and made a small alteration(managed to make it rhyme) to what Bob Marley(RIP) likely would have used if he wrote this now. I feel tempted to re-write the entire thing as a timely tribute. This man walked the walk and beleved there were things more important than life itself. Being this is a sports board, he looked like an athlete too, in the soccer photo. "Redemption Song" Old pirates, yes, they rob I Sold I to the merchant ships Minutes after they took I From the bottomless pit But my hand was made strong By the hand of the Almighty We forward in this generation Triumphantly Won't you help to sing These songs of freedom? 'Cause all I ever have Redemption songs Redemption songsEmancipate yourselves from mental slavery None but ourselves can free our minds Have no fear for (invisible enemy) 'Cause none of them can stop the time How long shall they kill our prophets While we stand aside and look? Ooh! Some say it's just a part of it We've got to fulfill the book Won't you help to sing These songs of freedom? 'Cause all I ever have Redemption songs Redemption songs Redemption songs[Guitar break] Emancipate yourselves from mental slavery None but ourselves can free our mind Wo! Have no fear for atomic energy 'Cause none of them-a can-a stop-a the time How long shall they kill our prophets While we stand aside and look? Yes, some say it's just a part of it We've got to fulfill the book Won't you help to sing These songs of freedom? 'Cause all I ever had Redemption songs All I ever had Redemption songs These songs of freedomSongs of freedom Quote Andy did you hear about this one? "I don't think I'm easy to talk about. StraightJ
I wanted to save this for round 2 when the food shortages hit, but didn't want DannyBoy or someone else to beat me to it :) I've got quite a list, and hope to keep folks entertained and/or encourage some reflection for a good while. 2 Quote Andy did you hear about this one? I think it was a mix of sarcasm for how people were overdoing it, and maybe some practicality....or maybe the video game playing was satire as well. Either way, the guy was clever and made an official title and got it out first. Good stuff from the lot of ya, yours captured some of the spirit, Hip got one where a lot of the lyrics were relevant along with the title, DB took one off my list(I realize I shouldn't be greedy lol). Without any idea if those in charge will end up forcing a reboot("2nd wave) and how long this could go, I figured I may as well stock up on songs to dole out, like I plan to start doing with food. StraightJ
I was going to post the original, as the title stands on it's own....but I realized this was an homage, NOT a cover. Chris Cornell re-wrote all of the words in 2015 to reflect our current time(lyrics underneath), I realized his subconscious might have tapped into something that's remarkably fitting right now, regardless what he may have consciously intended. Uncanny, possibly prophetic in some spots depending on what you notice. I was going to highlight some parts of the lyrics, but figured they'd have more meaning if you noticed them yourself. Most are fairly straightforward. Here come bards and the bloggers, who are losing your heads Only write by repeating what others have said Now the ones and the zeros, they don't know how to lie If it's written then it must be a fact Now winners & losers are equally lost, And the times they are a changin' back Come presidents blue, and congressmen red We do what's been undone and undo it again As we carry the load for the 1%, who bought you your seat at the table Well the wine pours red and the hearts turn black, And the times they are a changin' back Come all you media, women and men 24 hours a day scare the shit out of them If fear is your business then business is grand There's always someone somewhere dying And I know if it gets slow you'll take up the slack Cause the times they are a changin' back Come pass the baton in the relay of time Where death is the only true finish line And we look to the past or the future is blind Are we sure that we're equal to the task Cause I can't help but see the writing on the wall It reads: the times they are a changin' back Quote Andy did you hear about this one? StraightJ
I wanted to throw some British pop in here, and I think during this crisis(or any) many can relate to the title if not the lyrics as the common love metaphor. As a bonus, I figured if I mentioned actually liking the song, maybe it'd help dispell some of the narratives about me. Maybe. 1 Quote Andy did you hear about this one? StraightJ
One definition of "estrange" is: "to remove from customary environment or associations" Off the "Use Your Illusion II" album, the video opens with the definitions of "Illusion", and closes with the definitions of "Disillusion", which add even more to it's current relevance. And it's GNR, with over the top theatrics like Axl Rose jumping off an aircraft carrier, and Slash doing a guitar solo on like he was walking on water, so what's not to like? :) This is a more introspective version of Axl.
