The more I think about it, the only scenario that seems plausible is the league offering a make-up date to continue the game, and the Bills declining and choosing to forfeit. Any other option disadvantages too many other teams and, while that is far from the most important issue right now, it simply is something that won't be entertained in the name of competitive integrity. This is, ironically, probably the best result for the Bills' mental and physical health as well.3 points

Perhaps we could keep the updates in just one thread despite the BOTs wanting otherwise (I have asked Lit long long ago to please shut them off but Lit is Lit). I am, like many of you, watching for news on the NFL Network or other sources. Please post any reliable updates in this thread. Let's share the info Bills Brethren. I don't know about some of you, but it's not exactly easy for me when I see the players reacting like that. If the picture gets too big, I think it's a risk worth taking for these articles. It's part of a theme I had mentioned recently, including the QB room thread......how CLOSE this team is. ESPN's Bills reporter kept going on about it..... I think she used the word "INSANELY" close, and that was one of the things I listed for Bills advantages. CINCINNATI, OHIO - JANUARY 02: Tre'Davious White #27 and Mitch Morse #60 of the Buffalo Bills react to teammate Damar Hamlin #3 collapsing after making a tackle against the Cincinnati Bengals during the first quarter at Paycor Stadium on January 02, 2023 in Cincinnati, Ohio. (Photo by Dylan Buell/Getty Images) By Joe Buscaglia and Tim Graham 49m ago CINCINNATI — As medical personnel urgently performed CPR on Buffalo Bills safety Damar Hamlin after he collapsed to the Paycor Stadium turf Monday night, his teammates struggled to decipher watching the 24-year-old fight for his life while playing a game. Quarterback Josh Allen cupped his hands over his mouth in disbelief. Cornerback Tre’Davious White cried into a teammate’s embrace. Offensive tackle Spencer Brown buckled to a knee. Wide receiver Stefon Diggs put his hands on top of his head. The entire Bills sideline spilled onto the field to show support, slowly creeping closer and their concern growing deeper. Once they got a closer look, many began to pray. Others turned their backs in horror. With 5:58 left in the first quarter of a hotly anticipated showdown with the Cincinnati Bengals, medical personnel rushed to Hamlin’s aid after he tackled Tee Higgins, an otherwise ordinary-looking play. The Bills early Tuesday morning announced Hamlin had gone into cardiac arrest after the tackle. The medical staff unscrewed Hamlin’s facemask, quickly gave him oxygen from a portable tank and appeared to administer CPR for about eight minutes. A stretcher came out for him first. Then an ambulance emerged from the Bills’ tunnel and waited. Members of the Bills and Bengals continued to inch closer until officials ordered everyone to back away to give the medical professionals room to work. The Bills formed an arc around Hamlin. Not all could watch. Some joined their brotherly hands. Some stared alone in stunned silence. Dane Jackson, the cornerback who played college ball with Hamlin at Pittsburgh, wouldn’t go anywhere near the scene. They’ve been incredibly close for years. When Jackson had to be taken by hospital by ambulance earlier in the season with a neck injury, Hamlin was despondent. Jackson, occasionally burying his head in a towel, stayed beside Diggs and a Bills staffer far away from the rest of the team. Hamlin was lifted off the ground in a stretcher after being worked on for 15 minutes, leaving the field at approximately 9:10 p.m. ET. As they loaded him into the ambulance, all his teammates had a mile-long stare, trying to process what had happened to Hamlin. Diggs stayed by the ambulance’s open side door to glimpse his teammate before they closed it and drove Hamlin off the field. In the immediate aftermath, neither team knew what was next. Bills coach Sean McDermott called over his entire team and staff to genuflect in a prayer huddle. Bengals players began to loosen up on their sideline, likely out of habit. The Bills reluctantly retook their place on the sideline and began to put their helmets back on. Diggs summoned the entire team into a crowd for a message. Much of the Bills’ defense took the field for the next snap. Bengals coach Zac Taylor didn’t send his offense out, instead crossing the field to McDermott and the officiating crew. Within moments, both teams went to the locker room. The Bills walked back in near silence, the idling ambulance within their eyesight. The ambulance waited nearly 15 minutes while Paycor Stadium security attempted to locate Hamlin’s loved ones in attendance. The Bills filed into the locker room as general manager Brandon Beane and chief operating officer Ron Raccuia paced the tunnel from the ambulance to the locker room and back, gathering and sharing updates along the way. Bills offensive coordinator Ken Dorsey and other assistants took the press box elevator to field level, an indication Monday night’s game wouldn’t resume any time soon — if at all. After a woman and a man in Hamlin jerseys met the ambulance, it whisked Hamlin to UC Medical Center at 9:22 p.m. Bills owner Terry Pegula, Beane and Raccuia, who had been with the ambulance, joined them inside the locker room. Within 10 minutes, Raccuia and Beane emerged to meet with officials in the tunnel, with referee Shawn Smith on a mobile phone. A few minutes later, Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow and his fellow captains walked in uniform to the Bills’ locker room to check on them. The NFL officially suspended the game at 10:07 p.m. — 43 minutes after the game had been paused — but not without confusion over its intentions to keep playing. Hamlin’s marketing representative, Jordon Rooney, tweeted about an hour after Hamlin arrived at the hospital his “vitals are back to normal and they have put him to sleep to put a breathing tube down his throat.” Diggs was spotted entering UC Medical Center to see Hamlin, but most of the Bills remained at Paycor Stadium until their buses departed for the airport at 12:26 a.m. to return home. ESPN wondered how the league could inform players they had five minutes to loosen up before restarting the game, suggesting it was McDermott and Taylor who decided to leave the field. But on a midnight conference call, NFL executive VP of football operations Troy Vincent said, “It never crossed our mind to talk about warming up to resume play. That’s ridiculous. It’s insensitive. And that’s not a place that we should ever be in.” At 1:48 a.m., the Bills organization issued a statement on Hamlin’s condition, saying that he had suffered cardiac arrest. “His heartbeat was restored on the field and he was transferred to the UC Medical Center for further testing and treatment,” the statement read. “He is currently sedated and listed in critical condition.” (Photo: Dylan Buell / Getty Images)2 points

Do you think that bragging about praying and then calling people atheist and agnostic fucks are typical Christian behavior? I’m Lutheran so maybe we do things a little differently. Just wondering what brand of Christianity prays that way. Also do you think that peoples prayers after the injury meant less to God because you prayed before the injury? Can’t wait to hear this reply. Maybe you should pray on it before you answer. Maybe don’t use the foul language during prayer. I know you’re prayers mean more than everyone else’s but maybe keep it PG.2 points

I hear you, it is not even necessary. Maybe TWD means a handful of major plays are rehearsed? I dunno, but what I do know is I'd rather not focus on the smaller percentage of things I disagree with someone on than focus on the many available I could agree with someone on(unless those things were fundamentals, like liberty, or campaigns of hate vs a specific player). Heck, I even try to point out things I agree with Mixum on lol. I mean team sports is a good example of people coming together even when they have major fundamental differences. To be clear, I am not saying anyone else must do this, but I think it might be an interesting experiment if a bunch of Rangers tried it. Your rulers absolutely love the current (apparently default here?) mode of "divide and rule". Did not the Lutheran Bible include that speck in the eye verse? I actually find that one useful when I actually remember it. lol I don't imagine the founding fathers got into intense disagreements on such trivial matters too often. It just doesn't seem efficient, in my opinion. But yes, to end on a good note your scenario does seem silly. A fun hypothesis to consider would be a situation where a few teams give a metaphorical finger to the 1 score rule. Maybe that is the true root of The Curse Of The Daryls? :) (mostly joking, but to me the new nfl has things beyond the current level of reckoning of human ability, as well as some that seem to defy probability...some hit both, which is why The Curse Of The Daryls is an interesting hypothesis, IMO. Plus it supports due process, justice, and ethics in its aims. I do not think Lutherans have any rule specifically banning karma, which is cause and effect, natural law). (also, this society seems to at times confuse the words "hypothesis" and "theory"). Anyhow, I'm rambling. Peace be unto you, and knowing me, I'd likely make the FG. :)1 point

A Christian trying to make a tragic event all about themselves? Shocker.1 point

I could see the NFL deciding outcomes of games using referees, but at the level TWD is saying every play is choreographed. There would just have be too many people involved to keep it quiet for this long. Literally everyone down to the water boy would have to be in on it. There is no way that the NFL could keep that many people silent and to not have 1 anonymous source come out and say it’s all a sham? The amount of money that would take would not even be worth it for nfl to bother fixing games. Every dud coach or player would have to paid off, and that coach/player would get a more lucrative deal writing an anonymous book or article. Or maybe he thinks every sports writer is involved too being they are at many of the practices. Can you imagine? “ok SJ you are going to miss this 44 yard fg because we have to lose by 3 points and you will probably lose your job, but don’t worry the NFL is going to pay you enough to keep your mouth shut so you never have to work again as long as you don’t go to the media.”1 point

Thank goodness the NFL has state of the art medical devices and staff on hand(or one would assume such, for the amount of money the now no longer non for profit organization mints). Actually, to wherever else's credit, other young athletes collapsing who were not hit in the chest(or at all) have also been revived from death's door. ICR's antics are just begging for a thread on it, but for now Flan I just want to express gratitude for your contribution, and Damar Hamlin is alive. Extremely rare things do happen. I just wish the ones for the Bills would start being good.1 point

You know, it's probably helpful for me to read something like that (and admonishments in general lol) from folks who are decent to me. Of course it takes me back to something @Meathead said in the shoutbox...along the lines of people setting a long life as a measure of value in this culture. But otherwise I certainly agree. Also let me think of Breaking Bad, and people on the ground that may be injured by objects colliding above. Even if rare, I'd figure it happens. And In my opinion, the chain of events that led up to that airline collision in the show was epic story telling, showing the far reaching effects of 1 action (or in that case 1 inaction, Walt not saving that man's daughter because of her influence on Jesse). I mention that because sometimes things seem out of our hands, and sometimes we don't realize how grateful we should be for something until it's gone. Like that (IMO) epic song by Cinderella, "Dont Know What Youve Got Til It's Gone". Myself and others have tried to tell people that about THIS TEAM(I don't wish to start any quarrel here).1 point

It's over $3.1 million currently. I'll leave the psychology of it alone for now, but am glad that some tangible helpfulness has come from this already, and hope that continues. It's interesting, the current amount has almost already eclipsed the amount of his contract. From a quick search: (is that relatively small guaranteed portion correct? Damar Hamlin signed a 4 year, $3,640,476 contract with the Buffalo Bills, including a $160,476 signing bonus, $160,476 guaranteed, and an average annual salary of $910,119. In 2022, Hamlin will earn a base salary of $825,000, while carrying a cap hit of $865,119 and a dead cap value of $120,357.1 point

Not really. The “average” number of prime time viewers for Fox Crap Fake “News” is 2.3 million....only slightly more than the combined viewership of CNN and MSNBC of about 2 million. So what? The population of the United States is about 330 million. About 209 million of those over 18 years old. What this means is that hardly anyone is watching any cable news....that is available for free On the other hand, the NY Times paid subscribers, for their digital service ALONE is over 6 million....and literally tens of millions that read their content because local newspapers reprint the stellar reporting that the NY Times produces. Add even more with the Washington Post and other credible news sources that are more concerned wit accurate reporting than conjuring up wing nut propaganda. The reality is that, yes, more people watch Fox Crap Fake “News” because they are cultists and fucking idiots, that are incapable of thinking on their own.....they need Sean Hannity, Bimbo Laura and scummy Tucker to tell them how to think and become good little lemmings with their lies and pimping of racism and homophobia.. Knuckle dragging idiots that have no interest in facts or truth, only getting their daily red meat of radical right wing lying, demagogic racist, bigoted SHIT!!!!! Just like the Nazi’s needed Joseph Goebbels to keep the ignoramuses in line. For the record...I hardly watch any cable news. I do tune in to Fox Crap Fake “News” once in a while for a few minutes during prime time to see the shit that the scumbags are staying to shove down the cultist’s empty heads. All lies and bullshit all the time. I pay for subscriptions from both the NY Times and Washigton Post along with several other sites including The Atlantic and NY Magazine. Being well informed is important for a civilized society. Fox Crap Fake “News” cultists are the opposite and would rather be spoon fed shit rather than the any semblance of the truth.1 point
