All of them.   Pick any third world or impoverished country and you will find a Marxist paradise.

https://www.jacobinmag.com/2021/09/denmark-mcdonalds-labor-unions-strikes-wages-benefits

Look at that...unions striking gets mcdonalds workers $22hr 6 weeks paid vacation and sick pay.

Assuming that the number of available jobs did not decrease; remember - mass unemployment can be a side effect:

This worked because the business found that it was advantageous to relent.   The unionized workers did their research, planned their strategy well, and brokered the best deal they could.   These are brilliant capitalistic strategies by the labor force.

Businesses keeping extra profit is not always pure evil and greed.  Businesses have to insulate themselves from risk.  Sometimes labor has to negotiate a better deal and show that the path of least risk (and business success) is to implement wage or benefit raises.   Withholding of services is labor's one weapon.  The other is public support.

Progressive ideals enforced via overarching government regulations will not yield this result.

Unions, bargaining, self interest by each party, business owners, white collar workers, blue collar workers, venture capitalists, shareholders, silent partners, investors - these are all stakeholders that benefit from capitalism.

Doesn't always work; but it doesn't always fail as pure socialism does.   And has.  And will always do.

I used to here the answer was jobs, but there are help wanted signs EVERYWHERE, and people are still stealing.

maybe some people have no moral compass, are taught they were and are still are oppressed, and feel they are owed. That’s some of it, in my opinion.

I don’t disagree with your view on unbridled capitalism, crony capitalism, etc.

Crony capitalism is simply authoritarian regulation encouraged by the political donations of larger businesses that fear their inability to compete in a free marketplace.

A great example of crony capitalism:  The subsidy program for electric vehicles when Abiotic-Geological-Fueled vehicles are superior in range, performance, price point and sustainability.

Obama's Reinvestment and Recovery Act:  Crony capitalism at its best!!

I feel better imparting my knowledge; today was tough dealing with a failed Presidential Administration and the recent Buffalo Bills loss.

Well, that's certainly an interesting thought. I wonder why it is that people would rather sit home on goverment benefits than work for minimum wage? Do you think it has to do with the fact that you are poor regardless of which you choose? Why work 40 hours a week when you can sit home and get the same pay? This isn't about morals its about common fucking sense and human psychology.

So what do you do when you are have great morals but have a job that doesn't make enough to pay all your bills?

Get another job? Perfect! You can wage slave your life away! You either can't afford a family or you are never home to see them.

Oh shit, you since you have superior morals and work 16 hours a day for a lifetime, you are run down and burnt out. You can only afford shitty food. Boom, now you have some chronic disease and shit healthcare. Now you lose your house IF you could afford one.

Ahhh yes the American dream. That's why they call it that. You gotta be asleep to believe it.

Capitalism is cronyism. They are the same. It's the feature, not a bug. No matter where you go in the chain from beginning to end, someone is being exploited.

Yes. Exploited. "It's your choice to work for low wages"...ah yea. Work for low wages or starve. Yup, that's the system everyone here loves and defends.

We can't change the system because we don't like change.

We can't change the system because "I did it and turned out alright".

Lol

Seeing as finland doesn't have a minimum wage because they have strong unions, anyone who was fired probably enjoyed a nice unemployment check until they found another good paying union job.

must be nice, huh?

In your opinion what can we do to improve society so that people don't feel the need to steal?

We tried doing 3 strike laws, mandatory minimums, harsher sentences, etc...

Hmmm....what could we possibly do? Most people steal because they have very little money....how could we solve this problem?

Let me think...No money and vast inequality leads to stealing.

More tax breaks for the rich?? Hmmm tried that too.

Ughh.. I feel so close. If only there was something that we could do.

Hey idiot, they were stealing from Nordstrom and Gucci... not the local supermarket.

You're coming from the premise that these people have nothing and are desperate so... they rob a luxury goods store? This isn't England during Oliver Twist's days, even the poor in this country have paid for housing, medical, and food so there is no need to rob these stores. Just the fact that you defend them shows how ignorant you are.

I'll give you 3 guesses for what you can do with expensive items when you're poor.

Go!

How do you take this as me defending these people?

I see a video of people stealing, and I say hey, maybe we should improve their material conditions and fight against vast wealth inequality.

You take that as I approve of stealing. Like what they fuck is going on in your fucking head? Holy shit.

Brilliant post.  Businesses will do what businesses will do - regardless of what a clueless progressive wants.  Long term successful business will treat skilled people fairly - they have to in order  to survive.   Only government regulation can prevent this - mistakenly called 'crony capitalism', it is anything but.

It's a good thing that I advocate for strong unions all over the country! Unions raise wages for everyone, union or not.

You just did, AGAIN, with the whole "how do we improve their lives" statement. Stealing is morally wrong, end of story.

Aah, Engels the true writer of The Communist Manifesto.   The treatise that gave us 100 million deaths in the 20th century.

Now explain the actions of Darrell Brooks.  You must do so.  Now.

Engels was a putz. Why else would he let the lazy bastard Marx  mooch off of him so long?

I know nuanced opinions are tough for you to grasp.

Stealing is bad, but what can we do to improve their lives so they don't want to steal?

How fucking hard is that to understand?

But I wouldn't consider all stealing immoral either. Is the starving homeless person immoral for stealing food to survive? I don't think so.

Oh, so you believe people should work, live a miserable existence on low wages, or starve?

Henry Ford figured out if you pay your employees enough, they'd be able to afford his company's cars.

It doesn't matter what you do for them, no matter what they have aside from being filthy rich they'll want to steal things. I do agree that if you're starving stealing some food isn't a mortal sin though.
