Bills vs. Washington: No Buffalo homecoming for Ryan Fitzpatrick

Recommended Posts

NFL: Los Angeles Chargers at Washington Football Team Brad Mills-USA TODAY Sports

Former Buffalo Bills quarterback and fan favorite Ryan Fitzpatrick won’t be returning to Orchard Park this season as originally predicted. Fitzpatrick left the Washington Football Team’s Week 1 game with a hip subluxation (ball out of the socket) and was placed on Injured Reserve Monday. The move means Fitzpatrick is out for at least three weeks, including the Week 3 contest in Western New York.

Instead of Fitzpatrick, the WFT will start Taylor Heinicke at quarterback. A 2015 undrafted free agent, Heinicke will receive the second start of his NFL career in Week 2. He’s only thrown 92 career NFL passes with three touchdowns, three interceptions, a 64.1 percent completion percentage, and 79.5 QB rating. He went 11-of-15 passing for 122 yards and a touchdown in a losing effort on Sunday.

Kyle Allen is the only other QB on Washington’s roster, but the team added Kyle Shurmur earlier in the day Monday.

With Tyrod Taylor as the starting quarterback in Houston and coming to Buffalo in Week 5, the potential back-to-back former Bills quarterbacks on the opposing sideline is no longer viable. They can’t see Nathan Peterman and the Los Vegas Raiders until the playoffs and A.J. McCarron’s Atlanta Falcons until the Super Bowl. Matt Barkley is on the Tennessee Titans’ practice squad.
