Left-winger was drafted by Sabres in 7th round in 2017

The Buffalo Sabres have signed forward Linus Weissbach to a two-year, entry-level contract, the team announced Tuesday afternoon. The 22-year-old left wing recently wrapped up his fourth season at the University of Wisconsin, where he amassed 12 goals and 29 assists for 41 points in just 31 games.

Overall in his collegiate career, Weissbach has put up 114 points (34-80) in 127 games. The Gothenburg, Sweden native was originally drafted by the Sabres in the 2017 NHL Draft, with the 192nd overall selection.

Prior to Wisconsin, Weissbach spent one season with the USHL’s Tri-City Storm and spent many years developing in the Frolunda HC program. This season, he and Wisconsin were regular-season champions, and Weissbach himself was named to the NCAA B1G Second All-Star Team. He was also named the men’s hockey player of the month in November 2020 by the Hockey Commissioners Association.

He’s also trained overseas in the summers with players including the Sabres’ own Rasmus Dahlin.

It was a big season for Weissbach, who had a lot to prove entering this year. It’s usually an uphill battle for a seventh-round draft pick to secure an NHL contract, and time was running out - but he’s earned his entry-level deal and will now get a crack at it with the Sabres organization.
