The Bills had the former Steelers safety in for a visit last week

The Buffalo Bills hosted veteran safety Sean Davis on a free-agent visit last week, but he won’t be joining the club on its quest for a Super Bowl in 2021. Instead, Davis signed with the Indianapolis Colts on Thursday. ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported the signing.

Davis, 27, was a full-time starter for the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2017 and 2018, starting 31 of 32 regular season games. He entered the 2019 season slated to start once again, but a shoulder injury ended his season after just one game. The Steelers acquired Minkah Fitzpatrick from the Miami Dolphins just two days after placing Davis on injured reserve that year. He never regained his starting gig.

Davis could have served as quality veteran depth in Buffalo behind starters Micah Hyde and Jordan Poyer, but with experience as a slot corner on his resume, Davis also could have factored in a bit as a “Big Nickel” player. With Davis signing elsewhere, look for the Bills to try to re-sign veteran Dean Marlowe instead.

I was hoping he would sign with the Bills but a guy like Marlowe can be brought back to handle the spot.
