Bills agree to terms on three-year deal with Daryl Williams

Recommended Posts

NFL: Miami Dolphins at Buffalo Bills Rich Barnes-USA TODAY Sports

Another possible free agent returns to Buffalo.

Brandon Beane continues to work through his free agent backlog, keeping the Buffalo Bills roster intact. A day after re-signing linebacker Matt Milano, he’s reportedly agreed to a contract extension with right tackle Daryl Williams. ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler and NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport both had the news.

Per Rapoport, it’s a three-year deal with $14 million guaranteed. The deal averages $9.4 million per year, with a maximum value of $28.2 million. That’s a nice vote of confidence for a player who signed a modest one-year contract in 2020 free agency, then started 16 games and played 96 percent of snaps for the Bills offense. With Williams and Dion Dawkins as bookend tackles, Josh Allen was sacked only 26 times on nearly 600 dropbacks, the lowest rate of his career.

With these two re-signings in a cap-strapped year, Beane is sending a clear message to the rest of the NFL - his team was close to a Super Bowl last year, and they think they have the resources to make a run in 2021. Two of the team’s top weaknesses have been covered by retaining possible free agents, and that’s exciting to see, juxtaposed against the bevy of teams cutting players this spring.

One of the top free agent offensive linemen won’t be hitting the free market. The Bills have agreed to terms on a three-year deal with Daryl Williams, the team announced on Friday. HOLY SHIZNIT.

Beane is out of his mind.   Signs BOTH Milano and Daryl Williams back and gets Mitch Morse, Vernon Butler and Mario Addison to take deals to lower their 2021 cap hit.

He might be out of ammo now, but he kept his promise to take care of his own.

I hope he can find enough money to bring in a back up qb, wr/punt returner, punter, guard and cb.

Cutting Lee Smith creates some cap space. Our roster is in much better shape than I expected at this point.

At this point we truly can draft BPA.  I’m actually sensing a trade, we drop back into the top half of the second round and pick up another second or a third.  One of those teams at the top will not take a QB and want back into the first to get one.

Sources: The #Bills have agreed to terms on a 3-year deal with starting OT Daryl Williams. A prove-it deal pays off, while Buffalo locks in both tackles and bodyguards for Josh Allen for years to come.

Slightly under $10 million a year.   $28.2 million over the 3 years.

I don't have a good feel yet.   The Bills Pre-Draft meetings so far have had only 1 potential first rounder, OT Teven Jenkins - which we don't have a need for now.

All the other prospects have been 4th - 7th rounders.   Maybe they were waiting to see if they would sign Milano and Williams before committing to meetings with 1st round rated players.

On paper, Edge, Pass rusher and Corner would seem to be the most logically picks for both our 1st and 2nd round picks.   (Unless we go Guard at pick 61).

Trading down from pick 30 never gets me a 3rd round pick in the mock simulators....unless you drop way down in the 2nd.   But I would love a trade down that does give you an additional 3rd.

It appears Beane & Co left flexibility in all these contracts.  If you look at Milano's on Spotrac, for example, after 2 years the Bills can get out...and just have a $3.5 million dead cap charge.

And Daryl Williams' contract after 2 years would only leave the Bills with a $1.8 million dead cap hit.

So,  really they are 2 year contracts, with extra years at the Bills choice.   Cool Beane(s)
