Moss’s rookie year is over

Reports began floating out today that Buffalo Bills running back Zack Moss would miss the remainder of the postseason due to the ankle injury he suffered against the Indianapolis Colts. During his Monday press conference, head coach Sean McDermott confirmed those rumors.

McDermott said that Moss will miss the remainder of the postseason after he was injured during a fourth-quarter carry in Buffalo’s 27-24 victory in the Wild Card Round. A Colts player landed awkwardly on Moss, whose leg was trapped beneath him with the full weight of the Indianapolis player on him. Moss fumbled on the play, but he was ruled down by contact, a call which stood after replay review. Moss carried seven times for 21 yards, adding four receptions for 26 yards on four targets in the game.

With Moss out, the Bills will need to decide on a replacement running back for this week’s matchup with the Baltimore Ravens. T.J. Yeldon, a six-year veteran, has been on the Bills’ active roster since the start of last season. He’s usually a healthy scratch, but when Moss was hurt earlier in the year, Yeldon played in three games, carrying ten times for 70 yards. He added one catch, a 22-yard touchdown against the Tennessee Titans, on four targets. Yeldon also fumbled against Tennessee, though he recovered it himself.

McDermott also mentioned Antonio Williams, the rookie who came up from the practice squad against the Miami Dolphins to score two touchdowns on 12 carries. He averaged just over five yards per carry, totaling 63 yards on those 12 rushes. McDermott said that he trusts both Yeldon and Williams, and he also noted that Devin Singletary is more than capable of carrying more of the load if needed.

Moss carried 112 times for 481 yards and four touchdowns this season, adding 14 receptions for 95 yards and a touchdown on 18 targets.
