Timeout with 39 seconds left

Recommended Posts

While on the topic of dumbass timeouts, why did we call a timeout with 39 seconds left?

We are already in field goal range.

Let the clock run.

If we score a TD, great, Cardinals will have little to no time to drive the field.

If we don’t, then we kick a field goal with a few seconds left and send it to OT.

Another dumb Timeout.

39 seconds is plenty of time to get 3 or 4 plays in.

WITHOUT a timeout.

We did.

Dont take a timeout there.

39 seconds is plenty of time to score a TD or kick a FG.

Not sure Why Dabol called the TD play there. Probably should have run some plays and maybe kneel down and then call the TD play.

How would we have lost? We were already well within FG range. Do you mean in OT?

Same play could have been called and made without the Timeout.

Did somebody asked him, "Aren't you also giving their offense a rest?". I wonder how he would answer that....

What if we needed 6 more plays to score and we won with 4 seconds left?  You can't bash him for taking a timeout there.  It's complete hindsight bias, unfair to be critical of it when you know the result already

We were dinking and dunking the whole second half. And could not get any long pass play off. So I was fine with the timeout. It was pretty given that we needed a few more plays to get there. That was lucky that they scored on the play.

What if a meteor hit the stadium, I mean come on.

6 plays from the 20? What are we calling 3 yard pass plays?

let's not lie lit, if a meteor hit the stadium, and they had to cancel the rest of the game and instead of playing out the rest of the game they just called it a final, you would blame mcdermott for not being aggressive earlier in the game to have a lead at the time of the meteor lol

If the play is there, you take it. Then you put the game in the hands of the defense.

McD snatched defeat, from the jaws of victory.

You score a TD to go up 4 with 34 seconds to go............

the game is OVER 99.999999% of the time.

I don't understand the Bills giving up the middle of the field knowing the Cardinals had 2 timeouts left. That is the bigger issue.

If the Cardinals didn't have any timeouts left, sure give up the middle, who cares, the clock is running.

I hate prevent D. As Madden so eloquently put it back in the day.........

"The only thing prevent D prevents you from doing is winning the game."

Exactly.

If we replay that last Arizona drive 100 more times they come up short on 99 of them. They just got lucky, or we got unlucky. The whole time out thing is retarded IMO I've seen the exact opposite thread started here when we don't take timeouts.

No one is saying not to take the play.

I'm saying not to take the TO.

I know you weren't, and I agree.

The problem is that Josh is a 3rd year QB, and since he came into the league less than NFL ready, McDermott probably felt he needed to make sure that since they were already in field goal range, don't force anything and lets at least get into overtime.

Josh did his job, McDermott didn't do his.
