Buffalo Bills snap counts vs. Tennessee Titans: A Tuesday night to forget

Let’s take a look and then never discuss this game again

The Buffalo Bills fell to 4-1 after a close game. Well, half a game. Mistake after mistake killed any chance the Bills had. Just for “fun” let’s check in on who contributed to the loss. And then let’s never speak of it again.

Offense (72 snaps)

The 100% club had three of the usual six spots intact. Mitch Morse, Cody Ford, and Darryl Williams all made the cut. Josh Allen was pulled late when the game got way out of hand. Dion Dawkins and Brian Winters fell short and were replaced by Ty Nsekhe, Ryan Bates, and Ike Boettger.

Gabriel Davis made the cut though as the top WR in playing time. With John Brown out, it was expected for Davis to see more time but 100% was not a prediction I would have made before the game. He was followed by Stefon Diggs and Cole Beasley. Andre Roberts and Isaiah McKenzie also saw bumps in playing time with Brown out.

Devin Singletary continues to be the feature back though if you didn’t notice him out there last night you’d be forgiven. T.J. Yeldon continues to fill in for Zack Moss and Taiwan Jones got in on the action for one play.

Tyler Kroft outpaced Dawson Knox this week. It was the opposite against the Las Vegas Raiders. Reggie Gilliam remains entrenched in the realm of “sub-package.”

Defense (66 snaps)

Jordan Poyer, Micah Hyde, and Tremaine Edmunds were the only members of the 100% club. Josh Norman and Cam Lewis came close as the starting corners courtesy of injuries to Tre’Davious White and Levi Wallace. Tyrel Dodson wasn’t too far off either, subbing for the injured Matt Milano.

The Bills played all but 15 snaps in nickel. Most of the nickel reps went to Taron Johnson, which is typical. Dean Marlowe remains the “big nickel” option for the Bills.

Mario Addison gets the top billing at defensive end, just ahead of Jerry Hughes. Both outpaced Trent Murphy fairly comfortably. Darryl Johnson and A.J. Epenesa both saw time on the field. Epenesa had been seeing more playing time than Johnson recently, which was switched this week. The total counts suggest that these players were strictly defensive ends. Addison in particular had been floating along the line earlier in the season.

The defensive tackle group had a couple “extra” snaps that were almost certainly a goal line package that also accounts for the “missing” snaps for Norman and Lewis. Quinton Jefferson led the way with Ed Oliver right behind him.

Special teams (24 snaps)

Tyler Matakevitch hit 88% of play time on special teams and returned to his top spot for this group. He was followed by Darryl Johnson at 75% and A.J. Klein at 71%. From there, a logjam at 58% included Taiwan Jones, Siran Neal, Andre Smith, and Jaquan Johnson. That cluster at 58% has some fluctuation from last week but there are no real surprises on the list.
