Josh Norman is already out, but what about the others?

The Buffalo Bills are back! Our first glimpse of the team comes today at 1 p.m. EDT against the New York Jets. Buffalo is dealing with some minor injuries, but when compared to the Jets, who ruled four players out on Friday for today’s game, Buffalo is in good shape.

The only player expected to start for Buffalo that we knew wouldn’t play today is Josh Norman, who was placed on injured reserve yesterday. As a result, he doesn’t appear on the inactive list this week, since he’s already on the injured reserve list.

Who are Buffalo’s six inactive players for the day? See them below.

QB Jake Fromm

The emergency quarterback will only emerge from his bubble-wrap and glass case if either Josh Allen or Matt Barkley are unable to play. Even then, we anticipate that Davis Webb, Buffalo’s practice squad quarterback, would be the player elevated to the active roster on game days. Either way, Fromm is on the 53-man roster and inactive for his first NFL game.

RB T.J. Yeldon

New year, same results for the veteran runner, who lands on the inactive list behind Devin Singletary, Zack Moss, and Taiwan Jones. Barring injury, Singletary and Moss will handle all of the offensive snaps, leaving Jones to do what he does best on special teams. Yeldon is a solid insurance policy for Buffalo’s top two backs.

TE Lee Smith

The veteran blocking specialist is a healthy scratch, meaning that undrafted rookie Reggie Gilliam is active. He’s a special teams ace with the ability to play fullback, as well, so he serves multiple purposes. Dawson Knox and Tyler Kroft are the other two tight ends.

G Ike Boettger

The odd man out along the offensive line is Boettger. With the addition of veteran Brian Winters, this doesn’t come as much of a surprise. The Bills are going with more versatility in their other two line backups, keeping Ryan Bates and Daryl Williams active over Ike.

DE A.J. Epenesa

Buffalo’s top draft choice this year is a healthy scratch for game one, as the team decided to go with its top-heavy, veteran-laden rotation over the rookie. (We called this earlier in the week.)

DT Vernon Butler

The free agent and former Carolina Panthers first-round pick has a balky hamstring, so he’ll miss today’s contest. Justin Zimmer, called up from the practice squad yesterday, will take his place in the lineup. Harrison Phillips is likely to start as the one-tech next to Ed Oliver in the middle.

Second-round draft pick A.J. Epenesa inactive for the #Bills today. Veteran TE Lee Smith also inactive, as is DT Vernon Butler. https://t.co/VGLaVGRvkM

Four of the Jets’ inactives were known before today, as Gang Green ruled out backup quarterback Joe Flacco (neck), wide receiver Denzel Mims (hamstrings), linebacker Avery Williamson (hamstring), and running back La’Mical Perine (ankle). Safety Marcus Maye (calf/ankle) and offensive lineman Alex Lewis (shoulder) were both listed as questionable, and both will play today. Here is New York’s full list:
