Tommy Sweeney placed on active PUP list with foot injury

Who is hurt and who is not?

Second-year Buffalo Bills tight end Tommy Sweeney is competing in a crowded room with juggernaut (get it?) Dawson Knox, coach favorite Lee Smith, Tyler Kroft on a restructured deal which all but guarantees him a roster spot, and Jason Croom who continues to find ways to stay a part of the team even when injured.

With such tight competition in the TE room, the last thing Sweeney needed was an injury to cut into whatever reps would be available for him to find a way on the roster. But that’s exactly what we got.

According to Matt Parrino from NYUpstate.com, Sweeney has sustained a foot injury and been placed on the active physically unable to perform or PUP list. Sweeney will continue to be able to attend team meetings and all other activities not related to actual practice. The team can move Sweeney off the PUP list at any point once he passes a physical and is healthy enough to practice.

Although an unfortunate occurrence, without knowing exactly what kind of activities are taking place in training camp during COVID, it is possible Sweeney’s injury comes at a time where he is missing less than he would in a normal training camp.
