If border remains closed, Canadian Buffalo Bills fans won’t be out money

The team has provided reassurances to its fans north of the border

Per John Kryk of The Toronto Sun, Canadian fans of the Buffalo Bills need not worry about a unique dilemma they might face—a closed border.

“The Bills are the first known NFL team to begin informing its Canadian ticket buyers that, should international bridge crossings remain closed for any games this season, they’ll refund their money accordingly,” wrote Kryk this week.

The border has been closed to ground travel in both directions since March and is currently scheduled to remain that way until July 21. With the pandemic far from over and the situation ever-changing this could be extended. When it comes to Bills fans, there are already murmurs that the preference on the northern side of the crossing is to keep it shut.

Kryk cites numbers shared by Bills co-owner Terry Pegula and former Bills president Russ Brandon that Canadian sales could account for around one-fifth of ticket sales at New Era Field. It’s no wonder then that Buffalo wants to stay ahead of things and reassure this group of fans.

The Toronto Sun article does note that air travel from Canada to the United States is available but could come with a host of other problems. Aside from cost, fans returning home from such a trip would face a 14-day quarantine period. As the season hopefully draws near, the logistics behind fan attendance get more complicated by the day.
