Just watched the wining drive against Panthers. And he damn near beat the pats the week before in his first start. The man that benched him opted out after failing to make the coveted playoffs . Put in a last year mediocre qb to save his season. EJ showed so much.

He didn't seem like a leader. He definitely wasn't going to put the team on his shoulders to win a big game and his deep ball was embarrassing. He would throw the sideline routes 5 yards out of bounds. You could see where he was going with the ball and he'd loft it up there whether the wr was double covered or not.

There were moments that I thought we could win with Josh, Tyrod and Fitz.

Edwards had a few games where I was a believer.

I never saw anything from EJ or JP, preseason or regular season.

That London game in 2015 perfectly encapsulated his career. His good play could never quite make up for his poor play.

Those were his first 2 games and also the pinnacle of his career. He never played anywhere near that level again. Yet another failure from the Whaley era. He was abysmal, cover your eyes bad.

Doug Marrone was more concerned with winning in the short term than developing a young QB. Kyle Orton was a better pocket passer than EJ Manuel, but by making the switch to Orton, Marrone effectively killed Manuel confidence and stunted his development.

EJ Manuel was taken way too high even after trading down and the 2013 draft was terrible for QB talent.

I wanted to see EJ Manuel succeed, and thought he was surrounded with good talent in Watkins, Woods, Hogan, Spiller, Jackson and Chandler, but he never reached his potential.

Jacksonville played soft with the lead in the second half of that game.

Don’t get SJ started on that EJ Jacksonville game. He thinks it ranks as one of the best halves In Bills QB history.

This is just a troll thread. If EJ were any sort of a good QB he’d still be in the league.

It trailed only "The" Comeback as the greatest Bills comeback of all time.

All the Bills defense needed to do was get one stop, heck even a field goal wouldn't have helped the Jags.  And what did the D do?  Hot knife through butter.

Plus Robey(before the -Coleman) got an "anti-Patriots" type call, the bad half of his PI karma with us, or it was "game over".  If you weren't excited as heck and raging in a positive mnner after the Bills came all the way back and took the lead late in the 4th, there is something wrong with you.  Mock all you want, but not many QBs can recover in the same game from playing that poorly and bring their team all the way back to take the lead.  Maybe you would have preferred he pulled a Peterman so you could complain more

And this is coming from a guy who didn't like the EJ pick(go back and look), but just grew tired of seeing people get off on sh*t-talking our players.  I think I have a right to find that consistent mentality sick.  At least it looks like those who were keen to do so with Josh Allen are backpedaling now.  Even Lit is trying to confuse those prone to such with his use of JA images on his account to hedge his bets with those who can't appreciate/notice the clear sarcasm.  I guess it beats the Ricky Williams banner that someone's employer finally got taken down after the member said they were scolded because the boss thought they were looking at gay porn. :)

EJ was far from great, and I am guessing the OP meant he could have been managed in a better manner as Jungle alluded to. The word "fan" comes from "fanatic", not from "critic".  The latter would be better served with real life issues where critical thinking is important, or at least politics, however from observation most on this site reverse such(whether fan or anti-fan).   Sad, very sad.

lol Even if I don't fully agree, I'm not sure how you don't have 20 likes on that post.  Maybe everbody's too busy giving them to each other in reach-around style in the TDS threads?  In the past that would have been cash money.

I don't do reach arounds. EJ was made a rich man by the Bills and all he had to do was throw a ball. He couldn't get it done. The Bills didn't do wrong by him at all. They gave him an opportunity. What more could a guy ask for?

lol I hear you bro.  You're independent, and I doubt anyone questions you're integrity.  I know it's tough to go it alone...and heck, you even got rid of Newman.  :)  (now it reminds me of a hybrid of Meat's long time avatar)

I'm not saying the following to play Devil's Advocate, but I think Neal simply meant in terms of having a better shot at a career....money is not the be all, end all for some folks.  One need not think hard or outside of the Bills organization to see young QBs who could have had a different career outcome if managed differently in their early years.  It's one of those things without concrete proof, but it's unfortunately a discussion that's been had many times on here with plenty of evidence to support it.  I guess some folks may also seem to think the Bills had an inordinate share of bad fortune involved as well.  I have a feeling Sean might agee, at least.

If I recall correctly, I think Jungle had a pretty good summary of Marrone's handling of it.

Yeah, I don't think Neal or anyone was saying EJ exactly had a campaign against him like Tim Tebow might  have(if one reviews it in depth).  Sometimes when we see something again for the first time in ages, we're reminded of our possible pasts(don't even need Butterfly Effect/Breaking Bad level to consider them).  Pink Floyd actually wrote a song by that name.  Not sure if that's your thing, but someone might like it(If one is ever bored, the "reaction" videos to them or many famous groups on YouTube may interest some).  I was going to post the video here, but I don't want to offend anyone with music in the Bills section so I may find the Floyd thread, but I did want to highlight the couple of lines at the end that this discussion reminded me of.

They flutter behind you your possible pasts,
Some bright-eyed and crazy, some frightened and lost.
A warning to anyone still in command
[Cattle truck noises]
"Ranks! Fire!"
Of their possible future, to take care.
In derelict sidings the poppies entwine
With cattle trucks lying in wait for the next time.

Do you remember me? How we used to be?
Do you think we should be closer?

She stood in the doorway, the ghost of a smile
Haunting her face like a cheap hotel sign.
Her cold eyes imploring the men in their macs
For the gold in their bags or the knives in their backs.
Stepping up boldly one put out his hand.
He said, "I was just a child then, now I'm only a man."

Do you remember me? How we used to be?
Do you think we should be closer?

By the cold and religious we were taken in hand
Shown how to feel good and told to feel bad.
Tongue tied and terrified we learned how to pray
Now our feelings run deep and cold as the clay.
And strung out behind us the banners and flags
Of our possible pasts lie in tatters and rags.

Do you remember me? How we used to be?
Do you think we should be closer?

Neal, I may not fully agree with you, but I appreciate the intestinal fortitude you possess to point out unpopular observations.  Plus at times, I think you have one of the more underrated ways of saying things, and unlike me, the ability to be consistently concise.

Ha, I wondered if that might be the case, and did a search but everything still said 3.  I'm guessing he didn't actually play though, or at least enough to get credited with the loss?  How does that work anyhow if 2 QBs split time?  (I'm trying to pull a Rahm emManuel and taking an opportunity learn and not let my crisis of error go to waste).

After doing some more research it appears he didn't play.

I appreciate you're research and dedication to honesty, while still remaining at or near the pinnacle of Range humor.

Myself, I may not be the funniest or have a title of nobility like a lawyer(and I abhor admiralty law), but in a sense I did successfully defend EJ Manuel on the charges against him.  On here, that's kind of an accomplishment.  :)  (even tough he got convicted of a lesser charge shortly thereafter, lol).  I guess EJ has a title belt that it is likely no NFL QB will ever strip him of.   belt.png
