Recapping the first wave of free agency in the AFC East

The AFC East has been very active so far.

Free agency isn’t even a week old yet but the AFC has been making the league know that they are not to be taken for granted this year. With the Tom Brady news official that he is leaving New England, the other three teams smell blood in the water and feel that the division can be theirs for the taking. Let us recap all the moves the teams have made thus far.

Buffalo Bills

The Bills have made one of the bigger splashes in free agency, coming in the form of a trade. Buffalo got their true number one receiver in getting Stefon Diggs from the Minnesota Vikings for a first round pick and other picks. Diggs adds another weapon to a powerful offense for Josh Allen that should see the passing numbers sky rocket from last season. Brandon Beane also took care of his own by extending safety Jordan Poyer two more years to be an anchor in the secondary. Other signings for the team include:

Miami Dolphins

The Dolphins are going into year two of the Brian Flores era so this was a chance for him to sign some impact players to improve the roster that made strides during the end of last season. Miami showed they are not playing any games signing the now highest-paid corner back in the league in Byron Jones. They also signed players they were used to facing in the division with Shaq Lawson and Kyle Van Noy coming to town. The team did sign running back Jordan Howard but it was clear that their focus thus far has been to improve a defense that gave up a whole lot of points last year. Other signings include:

New York Jets

Fans in New York have been frustrated because the team has not made any flashy moves in free agency this year. However, the team has made good signings that should benefit Sam Darnold in the long run. They have bolstered the offensive line in George Fant and Connor McGovern. The team also added Brandon Shell to the mix as well. These guys may not make fans excited but look at what a beefed up offensive line did for Josh Allen in Buffalo last season. At wide receiver the team can easily get a day 1 impact player in the draft which i expect the team to go that route. Other signings include:

New England Patriots

Lastly, we have the Patriots who have not really done anything. In fact they have lost more players (6) in free agency than they have signed (3) thus far. This could benefit them in the long run with compensatory picks in the draft but as for now the team is taking a wait and see approach. The main thing they have to deal with now is how to replace the legend that is Tom Brady under center.

"But, man, you're never going to get any truth from us. We'll tell you anything you want to hear; we lie like hell... We'll tell you any shit you want to hear. We deal in *illusions*, man! None of it is true! But you people sit there, day after day, night after night, all ages, colors, creeds... We're all you know. You're beginning to believe the illusions we're spinning here."
