Hell, make it $30 per hour.  Dog sitting. Burger flipping.  You name it.  Tax the shit out of all those "rich people" who have too much.  Redistribute the wealth!  Shit, I'll take a zero stress, no education needed minimum wage job too!  We all should.  What could go wrong????

Minimum wage ain't meant to be your main source of income for years on end, guy.  Summer jobs, student's jobs, second jobs, temporary jobs, extra money, mad money.  If minimum wage is what you're counting on to raise a family and live on for years, there's a bigger problem here than just the wage.  We're not socialists in this country, at least not yet.  (If Bernie Sanders gets elected, I figure you'll throw a party).  No one is entitled to anything just for existing.  Raise the bar.  Better yourself.  For god's sake don't count on the government to support you and be your nanny.

Okay, so the people that fall below average intelligence for instance, they probably aren't smart enough on average to have a job that pays $30 right now. Right? Can we agree on this premise?

What do we do with these people? Do they deserve a decent standard of living? These are millions of people we are talking about. What would jesus say about this?

Jesus?  Who brought religion into this?  Are you calling myself and others cold hearted?  No compassion?  You're painting with too broad of a brush.  You provide no real details.  There is certainly help out there for the needy.  Are you saying there isn't?  How much do these millions DESERVE in your opinion?  Free cell phones and Netflix?  A house and a couple of cars.  Steak and lobster?  No one DESERVES anything.  Sorry.  They just don't.  It's a cruel world I guess.  You need to think this through more thoroughly.  What type of society do you picture and desire?  I'll take what we have.  Socialism always fails.

Nobody seems to put a number on it when they say that. And, what exactly does that mean, living wage? To have a roof over your head, food in your families bellies, clothes that aren’t rags? Or, all the added luxuries, iPhones, cable movie channels, newer car, alcohol and cigarettes, tattoos, piercings, eating out 3 times a week and shit they have no damn business spending money on.

listen anyone with compassion and empathy should want to help a brother who’s down on their luck. But, speaking as a person who took any shitty job I could, scrimped, saved, sacrificed, it pisses me off that there’s a certain percentage of people today that have become entitled , and think they should have everything their hearts desire, whether you’re a doctor or shovel shit for a living.

if you don’t have the desire or wherewithal (let’s be honest, some people aren’t very intelligent) the govt does have supplemental programs. Like I said, when I started working, minimum wage was the equivalent of $9.78/hr. For bagging groceries. It shouldn’t be a high paying job. And, BTW, I don’t see bag boys anymore. IMHO, if you push minimum wage up, these places are just going to eliminate or cut hours, or go to more robotics. Unless we make some kind of laws to prevent it.

So....are you unable to answer these questions? I'm not saying anything, just waiting for an answer,

Was jesus a capitalist?

Would jesus support a living wage?

Would jesus appreciate CEOs exploiting their workers?

Jesus is the core of your existence right?

I feel like these should be easy questions to answer for a good christian boy with a conscience.

I never said anything about lobster or netflix. It's about meeting the basic needs for living in today's society. Why cant you formulate a coherent argument?

Please answer at least the the first 4 questions. The last one was rhetorical, I can assume that answer on my own.

What's considered a living wage? That's my question. Seems every Tom Dick and Harry has the latest and greatest cell phone and nice shoes no matter what they make......my point is if you make the minimum wage $50/hr there will still be people bitching because they don't own a helicopter.

Somewhere between 16-18 an hour would make sense. With a family both making this much you can afford your own home in most of the US and raise a small family/pay your bills. This is just being a compassionate person. I know it's hard these days.

They would need healthcare ins/assistance at this rate too. $20k/yr for a high deductible policy would wipe out their ability to afford a home and ins

What is with all the Jesus talk?  I'm not putting it down, but you act as if I reference Jesus all the time.  I do not. What's that about?  You seem to  have a real axe to grind yet you offer no details.  It's not one size fits all, guy.  Sounds to me that you think you've been shortchanged in life.  "Living wage".  "Exploitation".  "Capitalist".  A lot of buzz words that point in one particular direction.  I'm not on trial here and I don't have all the answers.  One thing I ill tell you, I don't want to subsidize my fellow man just because they feel they're entitled to some or most of what I have.  Fuck that.  What's your real motivation here?  What' your beef with life?

Entitlement.  Socialism or worse.  Who pays for it?  Job killer.  Pipe dream.  Like I said before since we're pulling numbers out of a hat, why not $30?  Are you really worried about millions of your fellow man, or really just about you?  Something smells here.

Considering that the buying power of the dollar continues to go down, why are you ok with millions of people being unable to survive on less than a minimum wage? The minimum wage is not a living wage anywhere. Why are you okay with that? Was jesus a capitalist?

Whose fault is it that the buying power of the dollar continues to go down? And yes, it matters.

What happens next year as the dollar continues to plunge, does the minimum wage need to go up again? Of course it will.

Why are politicians, the very people who create these problems, dictating what businesses have to pay their employees?

Minimum wage was never meant to be a living wage, or a wage that you could raise your family on. It was meant for high school kids, and kids home from college. Fast food restaurants, grocery stores, jobs at the mall, etc. Kids living at home with their parents, learning about the value of money.

Are you insinuating there is only one cause?

Should the richest country in the world have 10s of millions of people exploited and living in poverty?

Does and unregulated market really work these problems out?

Can you cite that?

One cause? No, never just one cause. Usually starts with one, and then snowballs as the people at the top look for ways to patch the holes in the leaky deck.

Why does the richest country in the world (your words) have such a HUGE debt problem? And growing. Also, whose exploiting them? Certainly not me ...

Have regulated markets helped? Are they intended to help, or delay? As a matter of fact, these problems might be past the point of being able to be worked out.

I don't have to cite it, plenty of books, video's, articles and probably people on this site who can verify it. History can be our friend.

Obviously, there is no simple solution, but your post reminds me how skewed people's perceptions are. Who said anything about iPhones, tattoos, etc? Although, yes, a phone is a necessity. And they don't sell flip phones anymore. If you have children - and many jobs - internet is a necessity. Federal minimum wage is $7.25. That's $15,000.00 a year. Can you live on that? That's before taxes.

I’ll concede that a cell phone is a necessity, as there isn’t a pay phone to be found anymore. And there are plenty of cheap touch screen phones. Just as long as you’re not rocking an iPhone 11, I’m ok with it. And, internet, ok. My grandsons teacher gives them assignments they need a computer and internet access. But again, I don’t consider entry-level jobs to be what people with families should be working. If that’s all you can get, work two jobs.i did. But some people believe in the “high tide raises all boats” theory, that says if minimum wage is higher, all wages will increase. Because, why would someone bust their balls in a stinky factory for $17.50 when they could be a security guard trying to stay awake sitting in a chair for $15/hr? . Listen, I’m not an economist, or an expert on what to do. But if you’re 35 years old and have been working at Walmart for 10 years for 8.50/hr, you either want to be there, or aren’t trying hard enough. (It’s a whole other story if you think Walmart is exploiting workers)

The solution is letting the natural market work, after stopping the unnatural flood of aliens(legal and otherwise) that this President and every one for decades before him have allowed/helped to happen.  That's a great first step, at the very least.

Great screen name, by the way.

I haven't bothered to see how far off topic this thread has gotten, but it was bad enough already after just a handful of posts.  With this lack of ability to concentrate, maybe it's no wonder so many employers would prefer to hire cut rate foreigners who bring wages down across the board?  At least Sack seemed to get it, unlike the 2 neoclowns who posted before him.  If they actually bothered to read instead of reacting like bots failing a Turing Test like Frawk, they might have seen they agreed with the premise.

Is it only a dream these people will ever even want to be educated on subjects like this?

Sadly, most of these bots are arguing about things barely related to the OP.   Sad, very sad.
