Undocumented immigrants to get health care in Gavin Newsom’s California budget deal

"I was paying $1450 per month for shitty silver plan for my wife and two kids. Insurance company sends me a letter saying my premium will increase like 34% in the new year, up to $1875 per month. That's $22,500 per year. For shitty insurance, just to cover the fucking premiums. I was making 110k - 120k at the time, living in California. My mortgage for a 1,500 sq foot house is $3,200 per month = 38k per year plus property taxes. 30% of my income going to State and Federal taxes. 36k goes to the Government per year. Between taxes and health care, that accounted for 50% of my income. The mortgage accounted for 80% of my income. Plus fucking sales tax on everything. That left me with 25k to pay for everything else during the year. The goal of Obamcare was to completely hollow out the middle and upper middle class. Create a class of elites and the poor. This was the introduction of socialism under the guise of "healthcare".

Undocumented immigrants to get health care in Gavin Newsom’s California budget deal

California Gov. Gavin Newsom’s first budget won’t look exactly like he wanted, but a deal lawmakers released late Sunday largely fulfills the objectives he set six months ago when he first outlined his spending plan.

Lawmakers want to use an “extraordinary” state budget surplus to expand health care options for undocumented people while stockpiling billions of dollars in reserves in anticipation of an economic downturn, according to documents the Legislature’s Budget Conference Committee released.

The agreement marks the end of months of negotiations between Newsom and the Legislature. Lawmakers face a June 15 deadline to pass the budget, which will take effect in July.

The agreement includes funding to let undocumented young adults under age 26 enroll in Medi-Cal, the state’s health insurance program for low-income Californians. But it doesn’t extend that eligibility to undocumented seniors, as state senators had proposed.

The expansion will take effect Jan. 1, 2020 and cost $98 million in the upcoming fiscal year. It will make California the first state to allow undocumented adults to sign up for state-funded health coverage.

The budget includes a fine on people who don’t buy health insurance known as an individual mandate. The fines were initially implemented as part of the federal Affordable Care Act law known as Obamacare, but Republicans acted in 2017 to roll them back. Newsom and legislative leaders say re-imposing the penalty at the state level will shore up the state’s health insurance marketplace and keep premiums from rising dramatically.

NY has run up against a $6B deficit, which means..... higher taxes!.... once Cali runs themselves fully out of money, the next wave of taxes will hit and boom, more will leave.  The problem is they keep going to good states and take their stupid ideas with them..  I will never understand why people seek refuge and then try to enact the same damn things they were running from.

Yep, I'm already seeing that in Texas.  It's a shame.  :niterider:

Speaking of taxes, some legislation was passed earlier this year preventing Texas from imposing a state income tax on its citizens.  At least we're trying to stay ahead of this crap.  :niterider:

I went to NC and its getting all too close to bipartisanship here, the general population doesnt seem to show it, but the votes do.. wake up call when dems won the Governor's seat, hoping for a better turn out at the polls this year.  A lot of shady shit happening in the city of Raleigh in the name of "protecting citizens" which is really just blasting them right in the ass.  Corporate payoffs no doubt and all Dems sitting the board passing this shit.

Hey dummy, the original article is from the Sacramento Bee. The next time you want to push an ad hominem attack on one of my sources I expect you to come up with a counter-point that links to an article you've read that disputes it. Thanks and have a nice day.

I know what you said, and I meant no disrespect.

But I wish more people would become illuminated and understand that when it comes to politics we have no choice.

The only choice we do have is light and dark. And we need to flood the darkness with the brightest light possible.

Zzzz.... The Republicans have no solution so what is yours?

In the end we need some program that covers 100% of the USA population - whether public, private, or a combo of both.

For most Americans, Health Ins costs close to 20% of pretax income, so it is really the elephant in the room.

We’ve heard years of repeal and replace...time to nut up Republicans and show the USA your plan

I've already said mine before. Briefly, all medical care facilities and insurance providers are now designated non-profit and removed from the stock exchange. No more shareholders because health care is not an industry for private profit and should be considered an essential service like fire houses and police stations. Insurance providers are permitted to operate nationwide eliminating regional monopolies. Medical prices must be posted on websites and at the actual facilities themselves. Drugs may be purchased from any country as long as they have the FDA approval.

What are the chances this would happen? Very slim because a lot of hedgers and shareholders would lose a lot of money but all of the executives can still make the same cash.

Good ideas.  I also think that healthcare needs to be wrestled from the employer purchased model. Employers can still offer $$ to their employees but the employee should have to purchase it themselves. If 100% of the population purchased their insurance on the exchange then there would be a better understanding of the true cost of healthcare. It would also give employees more freedom to change jobs without the fear of losing coverage

20 years ago, it wasn't broken, but it's totally fucked right now. And where they fucked up was by changing what people who already HAD insurance were used to instead of just focusing on people who didn't have insurance. My insurance was great! Now I'm looking at raising my deductible in Spring so I can lower my damn premium to a more affordable amount, since I assume it's going to go up.....again!

Agree, it needs to be a more Capitalist system with competition instead of regional monopolies that just enrich themselves at the expense of the sick. The Republicans are complicit in this as well since they screamed about repeal for years and had no plan for a replacement. My suspicions are that no one had a replacement plan drafted that would still enable the Pharmaceutical and Insurance companies to keep raking in the windfall from ObamaCare and you know how lobbying is in DC.
