What Sean McDermott said about Zay Jones trade

Recommended Posts

We already know Zay Jones was shocked by the Bills’ decision to trade him. We even know Duke Williams, who essentially replaced Jones’ stop in the lineup, received a text from the departed player after the news broke.

Buffalo head coach and spokesperson for the team, Sean McDermott, now also dished his thoughts on the move as of Wednesday.

While mostly being coy and complimentary of Jones, McDermott did admit that the time was right to move the third-year wideout.

“Zay is a good player and a tremendous person, so we wish him the best. We know he’s going to do good things out there in Oakland. Sometimes a change of scenery is good,” McDermott said. “For us, it’s us moving forward and we felt like it was the right time for us.”

To McDermott’s credit, the timing was perfect. The more time Jones didn’t get game action, the less his value would be.

Jones saw one snap on offense in his final game with the Bills.

If that trend continued, the Bills would likely get nothing for him instead of a fifth-round pick from the Raiders.

Jones only had seven catches in five games with the Bills this season.
