2019 Bills opponents: Steelers' Mason Rudolph returns

Recommended Posts

The Bills and Steelers faceoff in Week 15. It’s an AFC matchup and it could have huge playoff implications that late in the year.

Per usual, the quarterback position has a say on the outcome of every game and the Steelers have an update with that position this week.

Quarterback Mason Rudolph will return to the lineup after taking a brutal looking hit that knocked him out cold and put him into the concussion protocol. Pittsburgh doesn’t face anyone this weekend with their bye en route, but they’ll play the Dolphins next.

So Rudolph only will miss one game for the Steelers as head coach Mike Tomlin, per Steelers Wire, said rookie Devlin Hodges will be replaced by Rudolph when he’s ready.

First and foremost, Rudolph would’ve likely been playing against Buffalo. By Week 15 if he was still n the protocol, something very seriously would have been wrong.

While still a ways away from seeing the Steelers, this is still a worthwhile mention for the Bills. As a second-year pro, Rudolph is getting his first sniffs of game action in the NFL. Starter Ben Roethlisberger is out for the year, so it’s Rudolph’s rodeo now. Translation: The more experience Rudolph gets prior to facing the Bills, the better off for the Steelers.

That, of course, does not guarantee a win for the Steelers as the NFL is a “week-to-week” league, but it’s still a note worth mentioning that he’s back in the lineup so soon after taking that ugly hit.

So far Rudolph has made three starts for the Steelers and is 1-2 overall. He’s doing pretty well, though. He has a 67 percent completion rate, seven touchdowns, two interceptions and 646 passing yards.
