Mitch Morse, Conor McDermott on the verge of clearing concussion protocol

Recommended Posts

By Dan Lavoie Aug 20, 2019, 1:25pm EDT

At Tuesday’s Buffalo Bills practice, an encouraging sight graced the practice field: starting center Mitch Morse, clothed in a regular white practice jersey. Per the team, both Morse and offensive tackle Conor McDermott are nearly cleared through the concussion protocol, fully participating in team activities and preparing for an independent neurologist to clear them.

Given the timing of events, with Buffalo’s “dry run” preseason game scheduled for the end of this week, Morse should be considered fully questionable for that game. Obviously the team would like to give him live action before the regular season starts, but since he’s only just returned to practice, that may be too ambitious. If Morse plays this week, it might only be a limited number of reps before Jon Feliciano or Spencer Long takes over.

McDermott might be more likely to play, since he’s already appeared in a game this summer and his recovery time hasn’t been as long as Morse’s.

At Tuesday’s practice, Jerry Hughes, Frank Gore, and Cole Beasley seemed to be taking a veteran rest day. Offensive tackle Ty Nsekhe (knee) returned to practice and took reps with the second string at right tackle. Jason Croom (hamstring) and De’Ondre Wesley (unknown) practiced but were not full participants, going without pads.

Rookie cornerback Cam Lewis (concussion) is in the middle of the concussion protocol after suffering the injury in Friday’s game. Punter Cory Carter (sore knee) did not practice today.

Rookie tight end Dawson Knox (hamstring) was a fully padded participant in practice today. He may make his preseason debut this week.

Good to see Morse back.

Bring him along slowly.

McDermott has a lot to prove in very little time but the swing tackle job is there for him to take.

Let's just hope his head is slightly stronger than a peeler crab ( softshell). Damnit I want him to work for us. We need him too!

Nsekhe was getting eased back into practice and was working at 2nd team RT. I hope we still run the Ford at RG and Nsekhe at RT starting lineup. I don't love Long starting at RG, would much rather have him and Feliciano as interior line depth. Our line is so much better just based on our depth compared to last year

Yawn.... Cut Morse with an injury settlement already. Feliciano is playing well enough in his absence. Morse could literally get another concussion from sneezing too hard. Admit you screwed up big time by signing him to an outrageous contract and let's move on. If your being honest with yourself, it's the best thing for Morse too.

Saw a list today showing Morse is the highest paid C in the league. I have 0 faith he will make it through this year without getting another one, which will (and should) be the end of his career.
