  1. By PoliZette Staff | October 17, 2019 Vice President Mike Pence announced on Thursday during a press conference that the United States has convinced the nation of Turkey to agree to a ceasefire in Syria. Speaking in Ankara, Turkey, after more than five hours of talks with Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan, Pence told reporters the two countries “have both mutually committed to a peaceful resolution and future for the safe zone, working on an international basis to ensure that peace and security defines this border region of Syria.” Pence also said that Turkey and the United States had committed to “defeat ISIS activities in north Syria.” That includes an agreement to “coordinate efforts on detention facilities and internally displaced persons in formerly ISIS-controlled areas.” Turkey, as part of this agreement, will pause all military operations for 120 hours to allow the withdrawal of YPG forces; the latter is made up mostly of ethnic Kurds, according to multiple news outlets. Pence added on Thursday the ceasefire means the United States would not place further economic sanctions on Turkey — and that it would remove the sanctions that already exist once the ceasefire is implemented. Pence and Secretary of State Mike Pompeo had traveled to Turkey for talks with Erdogan on just this topic. President Donald Trump praised the agreement in comments to reporters in Fort Worth, Texas, calling it “an incredible agreement.” “This is an incredible outcome … something they [the previous administration] were trying to get for 10 years … I guess I’m an unconventional person … In the end, they were there,” said Trump. “This is about the nation, not Republicans or Democrat … During the five-day ceasefire … they’ll be moving around the safe zone.” “And we’ve gotten everything we’ve ever dreamed of,” he added. Trump also said he “wanted to thank everyone,” including Turkey’s president, and the Kurds. “If we didn’t go this unconventional, tough-love approach,” added the president, the agreement might not have happened. “It’s a great day for civilization,” he also said. The president heads to Dallas tonight to address supporters in a major campaign rally. Ahead of the news conference, Trump also called the development “great news.” He said “millions of lives” would be saved from this action. Here are two of his most recent tweets: This is a great day for civilization. I am proud of the United States for sticking by me in following a necessary, but somewhat unconventional, path. 2. Audrey Conklin on October 17, 2019 NASA agreed to reimburse SpaceX $5 million for a workplace safety review after the aerospace company’s founder, Elon Musk, smoked weed on camera in 2018, POLITICO reported Wednesday citing contracting records. That $5 million reportedly given to SpaceX, a federal contractor with security clearances, to review workplace conduct came from taxpayer funds, according to POLITICO. Joe Rogan, host of “The Joe Rogan Experience” podcast on which Musk, who has a security clearance, smoked weed in a September 2018 video episode that went viral, tweeted the news Thursday, saying, “I can’t believe this is real.” “The silliest part about it is he took one puff of weed and barely inhaled. We were drinking whiskey for over an hour on air before this,” Rogan continued. The silliest part about it is he took one puff of weed and barely inhaled. We were drinking whiskey for over an hour on air before this. — Joe Rogan (@joerogan) October 17, 2019 Some space industry sources told POLITICO that the decision to reimburse SpaceX for the safety review, which included educating and interviewing SpaceX employees at all levels, was a highly unusual one. Boeing, an aerospace company and SpaceX competitor, was required to conduct the same workplace safety review but did not receive any kind of reimbursement from NASA despite also being a federal contractor. “As we understand it, NASA is moving forward with fulfilling the objectives of their safety assessment under our current contract, and we are prepared to help our customers meet those goals,” a Boeing spokesperson told the Daily Caller News Foundation in a statement. “As a taxpayer, why would I pay when I don’t have to?” Space strategist Pete Garrettson, a retired Air Force lieutenant colonel, told POLITICO. “If I was Boeing, I also would have said, ‘Why am I being punished without the same compensation?’” Garrettson added, however, that Boeing’s Commercial Crew Program received $4.82 billion from NASA while SpaceX only got $3.14 billion. “The idea of NASA ever giving SpaceX preferential treatment over Boeing is simply giggle-inducing to industry insiders,” University of Southern California Assistant Professor Greg Autry, who served on President Donald Trump’s NASA transition team, told POLITICO. “At every step of the way Boeing got more [money] in the [Commercial Crew Development] program. Far, far more than $5 million. Even discussing $5 million in this context is silly,” he continued. (RELATED: ‘I Am Certain’: Elon Musk Makes Another Prediction About The Future Of One Of His Companies) When NASA Associate Administrator for Human Exploration William Gerstenmaier said in an interview with The Washington Post that the administration was launching the safety review of SpaceX in November 2018, NASA Administrator Jim Bridenstine said “the key concern” to him is what kind of culture led to Musk’s behavior on “The Joe Rogan Experience” and that “NASA involved in that,” according to POLITICO. “As an agency, we’re not just leading ourselves but our contractors, as well. We need to show the American public that when we put an astronaut on a rocket, they’ll be safe,” he added. NASA and SpaceX did not immediately respond to the Daily Caller News Foundation’s request for comment. 3. Shelby Talcott on October 16, 2019 Journalist Megyn Kelly said Wednesday there needs to be an outside investigation into NBC News regarding allegations raised in investigative reporter Ronan Farrow’s new book. She spoke to Fox News’s Tucker Carlson about allegations detailed in Farrow’s book “Catch and Kill: Lies, Spies and a Conspiracy to Protect Predators,” namely the accusation that the network tried to cover up former NBC host Matt Lauer’s alleged sexual misconduct. The former Fox News anchor hit back at NBC News for not having an external investigation into the allegations against Lauer and expressed skepticism that the network had no idea about the alleged sexual misconduct before it fired the host in 2017. She suggested the network should “show us the money” and come clean about any and all agreements made to former staffers. “They haven’t gotten specific about what monies were paid out to home,” Kelly said in her first TV interview in nearly a year. “Show us the money. The number one thing that needs to happen now is they need to release any and all Matt Lauer accusers from their confidentiality agreements.” Kelly left Fox News for NBC in 2017 and parted ways with the network in January after making comments about blackface and Halloween. She returned to Fox for the first time in nearly three years Wednesday evening. Carlson wondered if NBC saying that it had no previous knowledge of the allegations against Lauer is a “plausible claim.” Kelly noted the network had settlements with former employees and that there were complaints about Lauer before that of former NBC staffer Brooke Nevils, who accused the disgraced “Today” show host of anally raping her in a hotel room during the coverage of the 2014 Olympics in Sochi, Russia. “Show us all of the agreements, the enhanced severance agreements reached or at least the number so we can see which ones pop out and which ones are super high,” Kelly continued. “Are they all women? Do they all have a connection with Matt Lauer? Release the women from their confidentiality obligations.” Kelly said that “the question is open as to whether they [NBC] put dollars ahead of decency.” She added that there “needs to be an outside investigation into” the network, mentioning that several other outlets with allegations of scandals have done the same in the past. “There needs to be an outside investigation into this company. They investigated themselves. That doesn’t work,” Kelly said. “Fox News had an outside investigator. CBS News had an outside investigator — NPR, the NFL. This is how it’s done. You get somebody on the outside who can be trusted.” Kelly added that some of the higher-ups responsible for the internal investigation had allegations made against themselves, making it impossible for people to trust that the inquiry was unbiased and legitimate. Farrow’s book released Tuesday alleges that NBC News killed his story on sexual assault allegations against Harvey Weinstein after the now-disgraced movie mogul threatened to reveal sexual misconduct allegations against Lauer. 4. When Donald Trump made the decision to withdraw U.S. troops from northern Syria, Democrats blasted the president as being reckless and wrongheaded. However, this is not how Democrats reacted when President Barack Obama pulled American forces out of Iraq. Few Democrats have been more outspoken against Trump’s Syria withdrawal than House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Congresswoman Maxine Waters, but they sang an entirely different tune eight years ago when Obama made a similar foreign policy move. RELATED: Rand Paul: Pulling US Troops From Syria ‘May Be The Best Thing That Ever Happened To The Kurds’ Maxine Waters’ Hypocrisy “As the war in Iraq draws to a close, it is my hope that this conflict will serve as a solemn reminder of the costs of war,” Waters said in October 2011. “We must carefully reexamine our approach to national security and how we view the United States’ role in promoting international peace and security.” “If we are to remain leaders in the world, we must always use our best judgment to determine when and how we engage other nations and other actors – particularly if we are considering the use of military force,” Waters said. Why the change of heart??? @SpeakerPelosi @HouseDemocrats @RepMaxineWaters https://t.co/dwFwl4Ndfb #Syria #DoNothingDemocrats — @Finn_McCool (@AnonimousSource) October 17, 2019 How is what Waters said in 2011 much different than President Trump today warning against “fighting other people’s wars?” Nevertheless, here’s what Waters said just last week about Trump leaving Syria and what that might mean for the Kurds. “If the United States abandons the Kurds, these courageous allies will never trust us again,” Waters said, adding that “Trump’s betrayal of the Kurds is a gift to Russia, Iran and ISIS.” Visit our friends at WHATFINGERNEWS: The Internet’s Conservative Homepage Nancy Pelosi’s Hypocrisy On the same day Waters blasted Trump over Syria, Nancy Pelosi slammed him as well. “This reckless, misguided decision undermines the efforts by our brave servicemembers and our allies to end ISIS’s tyranny,” Pelosi said. But when Republicans criticized Obama in 2011 for his troop withdrawal, Pelosi had nothing but praise for the president, thanking him “for a promise made and a promise kept, honoring the U.S.-Iraq Security Agreement and the wishes of the American people to bring all our troops home by the end this year.” Contrast this with reports Wednesday that Pelosi barged angrily out of a meeting with Trump after he hd what she described as a “meltdown.” On Thursday, Trump tweeted about his frustrations with Democrats. “I am the only person who can fight for the safety of our troops & bring them home from the ridiculous & costly Endless Wars, and be scorned. Democrats always liked that position, until I took it,” the president said. I am the only person who can fight for the safety of our troops & bring them home from the ridiculous & costly Endless Wars, and be scorned. Democrats always liked that position, until I took it. Democrats always liked Walls, until I built them. Do you see what’s happening here? — Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) October 17, 2019 Many Republicans have stood with Democrats regarding Syria withdrawal, with 129 GOP leaders voting for a resolution opposing Trump’s decision. Republican Senator Lindsey Graham has led this pro-war charge, which prompted Trump to say Thursday, “Lindsey Graham would like to stay in the Middle East for the next thousand years with thousands of soldiers, fighting other people’s wars.” RELATED: President Trump Says Lindsey Graham Wants to Be in the Middle East for a Thousand Years While Trump is correct that Graham never saw a war he didn’t want the U.S. involved in, Republican Thomas Massie had a more sober take before the resolution vote. “Congress never voted to send troops to Syria, but in five minutes we will be voting on a resolution that disapproves of Trump removing them,” Massie tweeted on Wednesday. “We should have never gone to Syria. We should leave Syria. I’m voting no on this resolution.” Congress never voted to send troops to Syria, but in five minutes we will be voting on a resolution that disapproves of Trump removing them. We should have never gone to Syria. We should leave Syria. I’m voting no on this resolution. — Thomas Massie (@RepThomasMassie) October 16, 2019 Thomas Massie also opposed Obama’s wars, making him one of the few in Washington who has been consistent on this issue. The Democrats can’t say the same. It’s perfectly clear they are more concerned with being anti-Trump than antiwar these days. Do Nancy Pelosi and Maxine Waters now agree that Obama’s Iraq withdrawal was bad, too? Would they agree with Syria withdrawal if it was Obama and not Trump doing it? We already know the answers to these questions – whether Democrats would admit it or not. 7. Mary Margaret Olohan on October 17, 2019 The mayor of San Francisco announced Thursday that the city is blacklisting twenty-two states due to their pro-life laws. Mayor London Breed and Supervisor Vallie Brown, who is the author of the new ordinance, announced Thursday that the city will be restricting travel and limiting contracting with 22 states, according to the Los Angeles Times. The ban will go into effect Jan. 1. “By limiting travel and contracting with certain states, we are sending a clear message to states that disregard the right to abortion,” Breed said in a statement, according to the Times. These states are Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Massachusetts, Mississippi, Nebraska, Nevada, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, South Dakota, Texas, West Virginia and Wisconsin. California had already blacklisted Alabama, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Mississippi, Oklahoma, South Carolina, South Dakota and Texas because of their LGBTQ policies and laws, according to the Times. “Every day in this country, women’s reproductive rights are threatened, and we have to fight back. Just as we restricted spending with states that have laws that discriminate against LGBTQ people, we are standing up against states that put women’s health at risk and that are actively working to limit reproductive freedoms,” Breed said, according to the Times. Breed acknowledged that the blacklist may not be enough to cause states to “rethink their laws” but hopes that other cities may follow San Fransisco’s lead. “Although tax revenue from San Francisco alone may not be sufficient to encourage states to rethink their laws, if other cities and states follow San Francisco’s lead, the financial pressure might be enough to prompt policy changes,” Breed’s office said, according to the Times. 8. By PoliZette Staff | October 17, 2019 Rep. Elijah Cummings (D-Md.) — who spent 23 years on Capitol Hill and represented parts of Baltimore — passed away early on Thursday at age 68 after fighting health issues, his office said in a statement. Cummings, the son of a sharecropper, rose to become a powerful House Democrat after a career as a lawyer and judge. He was also a vocal critic of President Donald Trump. Cummings died at Gilchrist Hospice Care, a Johns Hopkins affiliate. He had been in ill health for the past few years, several outlets noted — and had traveled around the Capitol in a motorized cart. He also used a walker. The congressman was chair of the House Oversight and Reform Committee and one of the most influential Democrats in Washington. He was also a leading voice in the Congressional Black Caucus. He had been playing a major role in the House Democrats’ efforts to impeach Trump from office. 9. Shelby Talcott on October 16, 2019 Journalist Megyn Kelly went after the media Wednesday for what she described as blatant bias, noting that “it doesn’t belong” and suggesting outlets now worry about being judged for not condemning President Donald Trump. Kelly spoke to Fox News’s Tucker Carlson on “Tucker Carlson Tonight” in her first television appearance in nearly a year and hit back at the alleged change in journalism over the years. Carlson showed a clip of CNN’s Anderson Cooper giving a biased question to former Vice President Joe Biden, noting that scenes like this add “up to basically partisan interference in an election.” “You have journalists who feel that their first obligation is to help a candidate or hurt another candidate. That’s not journalism,” Carlson said, and Kellyagreed, adding she doesn’t think subjective judgment should have a place in journalism. “There was a premise that the other media, the mainstream media, maybe they weren’t far left, but that there was a baked-in bias against people who believe in homeschooling, who believe in a pro-life position, who might have a gun,” Kelly said, speaking about how the media has changed and describing how Fox News began. “And so they made a whole empire based on programming to those people. I think what’s happened now on the other half of the country, on sort of the mainstream, is they have embraced it.” “It was sort of passive and now it’s active. Now it’s, ‘Let’s work. He’s too bad. We have to work together. We’ll be judged. History will judge as whether we were for or against this man [Trump].’” Kelly noted this change came before voters elected Trump in 2016 and mentioned an interview she did with Jorge Ramos of Univision, who argued that journalists must become partisan and “abandon neutrality.” “He said, ‘That’s over. You’ve got to come out and you’ve got to say Trump’s a racist. Trump’s a misogynist. Trump’s a bigot. Whatever your view is, you’ve got to say it and you’ve got to sell it, and that the time for neutrality has passed,’” she recalled. “And I do believe he’s [Ramos] persuaded — and others have come to their own conclusion — that that’s the way forward.” The post Megyn Kelly Goes After The Media For Active Bias appeared first on The Political Insider. 10. Audrey Conklin on October 16, 2019 Republican Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul argued Wednesday that pulling the remaining U.S. troops from northern Syria “may be the best thing that ever happened to the Kurds.” Paul’s comments came during a Wednesday interview on CNN’s “The Lead with Jake Tapper” as Vice President Mike Pence travels to Turkey to meet withTurkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan to discuss a potential ceasefire to the country’s offensive against U.S.-allied Kurdish fighters. “This was [President Donald Trump’s] decision. … It was the best thing not only for our troops, but it’s also the best way to adhere to the Constitution,” Paul said. “The Constitution says you don’t declare a war unless Congress votes on it, and who are we going to declare a war against — our ally, Turkey, the Free Syrian Army that used to be our ally, [Syrian President Bashar] Assad?” “He was told by the Turks they were coming one way or another, and they had 50 troops. Fifty troops don’t stop 10,000 troops. … I think he made the right decision. I’m reminded of Beirut [Lebanon] when we made the wrong decision and had 300 Marines in a barracks that weren’t well protected. … So I think he made the right decision,” the Kentucky senator added. Paul said Trump’s decision may end up being good for U.S.-allied Turkish fighters in the long run. “This may be the best thing that ever happened to the Kurds, because they need a protector in Syria willing to stay,” he said. “We had been preventing having them talk to Assad. Now they’ve made an alliance with Assad, and the irony of this is: It may end up being the best thing that ever happened to them.” Paul also criticized South Carolina Republican Rep. Lindsey Graham’s stance on the issue. Graham, who often sides with the president, joined a number of other congressional Republicans in calling his decision “so sad” and “so dangerous” in a series of Oct. 7 tweets. “Normally, the Lindsey Graham’s of this world would say Article Two gives the president the authority to do whatever he wants, and we don’t question the president because he has latitude. Now Lindsey Graham and [others] are up in arms on both sides of the aisle saying, ‘Oh, my goodness, President Trump moved 50 soldiers,’” the Kentucky senator said. Paul appeared to be the lone congressperson who publicly agreed with the Trump administration’s decision immediately after it was announced by the White House. “I stand with [Trump] today as he once again fulfills his promises to stop our endless wars and have a true America First foreign policy,” Paul wrote in an Oct. 7 tweet. President Donald Trump suggested in June that “there has to be some reason” why Obama has not endorsed Biden, saying that Biden was lying. “How [former Vice President Biden] doesn’t get President Obama to endorse him — there has to be some reason why he’s not endorsing him,” Trump told Hill.TV in June. “He was the vice president. They seem to have gotten along. And how President Obama’s not endorsing him is rather a big secret. Then he goes and lies and said, ‘I asked the president not to endorse me.’ Give me a break.” Biden assured Obama aides in 2008 that they “would never have to worry” about Biden leveraging his position for a presidential run. Biden’s words came as Obama considered his VP pick between Biden, Democratic Virginia Gov. Tim Kaine and Democratic Indiana and Sen. Evan Bayh. The former president searched for a vice-presidential pick that would add experience to his campaign, saying, “I want somebody with gray in his hair.” Obama also warned Joe Biden’s campaign advisers in March to make sure the former vice president did not “damage his legacy,” and met with Biden several times before the former vice president announced his presidential bid. Obama pushed Biden on whether he would run for president again, and Biden reportedly told Obama in response that he would not be able to forgive himself if he did not try to defeat Trump. “You don’t have to do this, Joe, you really don’t,” Obama said to Biden, a source familiar with the situation told the New York Times. 12. Shelby Talcott on October 16, 2019 The House of Representatives voted overwhelmingly Wednesday to condemn President Donald Trump’s decision to withdraw American troops from Syria. The White House announced Oct. 6 that Trump told Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan the U.S. would be clearing out of northern Syria. The news sparked bipartisan backlash because it allows Turkey to invade Syria and go after Kurdish fighters, who have worked with the U.S. to beat ISIS. Republicans and Democrats alike approved a resolution opposing Trump’s apparent acceptance of Turkey invading and attacking the Kurds. The measure passed 354-60, the New York Times reported. A bipartisan group of congressional leaders was set to meet with Trump about the issue shortly after the resolution passed. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and Vice President Mike Pence will travel to Ankara, Turkey Wednesday to discuss a cease-fire. “The Vice President will voice the United States’ commitment to reach an immediate ceasefire and the conditions for a negotiated settlement” according to a press release from the Office of the Vice President. Over 150 Kurdish soldiers have diet since Trump announced he would withdraw American troops and Turkey launched “Operation Peace Spring” Oct. 10, the country’s defense military announced. Turkey’s Defense Ministry said the number is higher, Fox News reported. The resolution is mostly symbolic but notes that America’s withdrawal is “beneficial to adversaries of the United States government,” including Russia, Syria and Iran. It called for Erdogan to end military action in northern Syria, the NYT reported. Trump has stayed strong behind his decision, noting Wednesday that Turkey invading Syria is “not our problem” and adding the the Kurds “are no angels.” The post House Votes Overwhelmingly To Condemn Trump’s Decision To Remove Troops From Syria appeared first on The Political Insider. 13. A company known for making politically themed action figures for Democrats is launching a campaign to fund their latest project – a figure molded after Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. The company, FCTRY, set up a Kickstarter effort to raise $15,000 to help fund the project and have easily exceeded their goal. “There’s a new force in the Democratic Party,” the campaign reads. “Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has been called a game changer, a radical, a firebrand. But mostly people just call her … AOC!” We can think of a few other things people call her. No word on whether or not the AOC action figure will come complete with a set where your doll can completely stage photos of her crying at the southern border. “We’ve got a pretty good track record of spotting real-life heroes in the making and from where we sit, AOC has the makings of a legend,” the company claims. RELATED: AOC Releases Short Film on the Green New Deal and It’s As Crazy as You’d Imagine .@AOC is on track to get her own action figure after a toy company meets its fundraising goal in just hours https://t.co/np9xFunpC8 — Newsweek (@Newsweek) October 15, 2019 Visit our friends at WHATFINGERNEWS: The Internet’s Conservative Homepage Irony Alert There is some red-flag irony to be found in this particular AOC action figure, specifically the materials being used to manufacture her. According to the site, the “AOC Action Figure is made from a combination of PVC and ABS plastics, and stands approximately six inches tall.” Plastics, eh? According to The American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE), a professional organization for chemical engineers, ABS “is made from petroleum-derived chemicals.” Oil. It’s made from oil. It is also not biodegradable. Curious how the environmental wunderkind would explain away that clear violation of the Green New Deal. Yet, FCTRY did their best. From the face that doesn’t even remotely resemble the Congresswoman, right down to the minute details such as the all-white AOC likes to sport while staging sympathetic photos for illegal immigrants, the company really put forth a solid effort. Can’t knock the hustle as they say. It would seem this company manufacturing the AOC action figure would agree. The post A New AOC Action Figure is Coming Your Way appeared first on The Political Insider. View the full article
  14. Chris White on October 16, 2019 Former Vice President Joe Biden’s campaign spent nearly $1 million on private jet travel as the Democrat’s presidential campaign’s financial situation turns more dire, according to federal data. Biden spent $923,000 on private jets during the third quarter, according to Federal Election Commission record the campaign filed Tuesday night. His travel expenses account for nearly one out of every $16 his campaign raised during the quarter. Some of the cost was for carbon offsets, The Daily Beast reported Wednesday, citing a campaign aide. Companies, governments, and even political campaigns, buy carbon offsets to comply with caps on carbon dioxide they are allowed to emit. Deputy Campaign Manager Kate Bedingfield assured reporters Tuesday night following the report was filed that the campaign’s finances are not a problem. “The fundamental question about fundraising is do you have what you need to run your race and we do,” she said. Still, there are questions that need answers. Biden has $9 million in the bank, while his overall funding lags behind Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren’s nearly $26 million, FEC reports show. That is also substantially smaller than Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders’s $33.7 million, and South Bend Mayor Pete Buttigieg’s $23 million. The campaign has instead shifted his spending toward buying television ads in Iowa. Warren, a leading rival for the 2020 nomination, recently surpassed him in a key Iowa poll in September. Biden’s financials have slowly ebbed in other crucial areas too. Biden entered the race in April as one of the contest’s biggest digital advertisers, spending $1.2 million on Facebook and Google out the gate. He ranked 16th among the Democratic presidential candidates for advertising on Facebook, spending only $32,000 leading up to the September debate. Biden has not responded to the Daily Caller News Foundation’s request for comment. 15. By MomZette Staff | October 16, 2019 One would think they’d get tired of this. One would think they’d get tired of putting down the first lady of the United States when there is so much else they could be reporting on, or writing about, or analyzing, or sharing — in the best interests of the American people. Instead, there are too many people on the Left who seem to take some sort of weird pleasure in criticizing America’s gracious, smart, elegant and hardworking first lady. They’re doing this simply because she exists and is married to President Donald Trump, someone whose policies and even personality they don’t agree with or like very much at all. They have, in fact, made a practice of slamming him and anyone close to him since even before he was elected. The latest example is a piece of writing in Vanity Fair that slams Melania Trump even for things she hasn’t done — and even for her good work. Check out a sample of the writing here: “As Melania broke ground on her tennis pavilion, video surfaced of bulldozers plowing down protected cacti in service of her husband’s border wall.” Related: Melania Horribly Criticized for Tennis Pavilion — Which Is Supported by Private Donations “While she talked toxic vapes” — the first lady is strongly against vaping as she works to promote the best health practices for American young people — “he mystifyingly yelled about how ‘only 25 percent’ of citizens want him impeached,” the Vanity Fair piece continued, in part. “The White House announced it would not comply with the House impeachment inquiry,” the piece went on. “Esquire published an excerpt from ‘All the President’s Women’ that points to 26 more women who have accused the now-president of alleged inappropriate sexual contact, including some incredibly bizarre groping tactics at Mar-a-Lago,” the publication droned on. “The more disturbing the news produced by or about her husband gets,” it also wrote, “the more pleasant and anodyne the first lady’s fight for children living nice and good lives becomes.” Related: Melania Trump Barely Arrived in Wyoming When She Was Mocked Again “It’s a real balancing act, an equal marriage of opposites on a surreal scale, casting each other in eerie relief,” the publication added. This type of snide and snarky commentary only shows the bias of those on the Left. It plays to their base, to their readers, to their fellow liberals, to their fellow anti-Trumpers — even when Melania Trump has done nothing worthy of a smear campaign. Sure, the piece admitted early on, Melania Trump is right to be concerned about the vaping practices by young people as someone who is concerned about children’s health and their ability to “Be Best” in all they do. “It is great. We do need to be proactive. Vaping is extremely silly, and it’s extremely serious. Melania Trump is not wrong,” the piece noted. But in this sort of commentary, one can always sense the “but” coming along or ever-present behind the scenes — the rebuttal, the putdown, the critiquing tone for any move Melania Trump makes. And this type of writing and commentary hardly comes close to the over-the-top praise and near-deification that Michelle Obama received for almost anything and everything she did during her husband’s White House years. And where, by the way, is the critical commentary about the walls the Obamas put up around their expensive homes? Where’s the criticism of that? Where’s the criticism of all the money they’re raking in from entertainment deals, from speeches, from events, from books? Imagine if Melania Trump did any of that? Related: Ticket Prices for a ‘Conversation’ with Michelle Obama Are Absurd There’d be a column a day going after her for that. And none of these folks would say, “It is great … Melania Trump is not wrong.” See this tweet with more information — and share your thoughts. https://www.vanityfair.com/style/2019/10/melania-trump-vaping-chat This piece originally appeared in LifeZette and is used by permission.
